Action/Sci-Fi/Thriller: An acclaimed actress is joining a new project. Academy award winner Halle Berry signed on to star in a new science fiction film, Moonfall. The movie follows a rag time team that embarks on a mission into space to save the world after a mysterious force sends the moon on a collision course toward Earth. Berry is set to play the female lead alongside Josh Gad who is also set to star. Roland Emmerich will direct while James and Dennis Wang are amongst the film's producers. Moonfall was acquired by Lionsgate.
A Black-ish star is teaming up with a pop star. Laurence Fishburne and Nick Jonas joined The Blacksmith, a new flick from Taken director Pierre Morel. Jonas plays a weapons expert, a “blacksmith, who must go on the run after his colleagues are murdered. Fishburne plays a retired blacksmith who must help Jonas survive. Ben Ripley will adapt the screenplay from the comic by Malik Evans and Richard Sparkman. AGC will produce.
Netflix is dropping a Cuban political thriller. Wasp Network will begin streaming on the service June 19. The movie stars Penelope Cruz and Edgar Ramirez and follows the story of a Cuban pilot who becomes a part of a spy-ring tasked with infiltrating organizations against Fidel Castro. Oliver Assayas wrote the screenplay while Ana de Armas, Gaël Garcia Bernal, Leonardo Sbaraglia and Wagner Moura are also set to star.
Alba is gearing up for some action. Jessica Alba is set to star in Trigger Warning, Netflix's latest action film. Mouly Surya is directing the story of a traumatized veteran who gains an inheritance from her grandfather’s death. However, things get complicated once Alba’s character discovers the reason behind his demise. Alba is producing alongside Erica Lee and Basil Iwanyk. Josh Olson and Brancato wrote the screenplay.

Comedy: Elle Woods’s return is being penned by an amazing woman of color. Late Night’s Mindy Kaling has signed on to write the script for Legally Blonde 3 alongside Dan Goor. The writing pair also penned the script of an upcoming wedding comedy starring Kaling and Priyanka Chopra. There is currently no release date for the comedy, but Reese Witherspoon is set to reprise her role of Elle as well as produce alongside original producer Marc Platt.
A popular comedian is breaking ground with a new genre. Marlon Wayans is starring in and writing Ride or Die, a film being billed as the first romantic, buddy-cop comedy. Wayans wrote the script alongside Rick Alvarez. Ride or Die follows a robbery detective who teams up with a narcotics detective to track down missing drugs. The female lead has not yet been cast. Wayans and Alvarez’s Ugly Baby productions will produce.
Drama: An actor from the Twilight franchise has passed away. Gregory Tyree Boyce was found dead in a Las Vegas condo alongside his girlfriend at the age of 30. Boyce played Tyler Crowley in the popular vampire saga.
Industry: A television executive is joining the film scene. David Martínez, one of Spain’s biggest television executives, will now serve as Secuoya Studios’ head of fiction. Secuoya Studios is the Secuoya Group’s division for film content production. The Spanish group is planning on expanding internationally and developing a headquarters in Los Angeles.
