Motion Picture: Esai Morales, Chris Paul
Action: A new villain is entering a popular franchise. Esai Morales is set to star in Mission Imposible 7 as the movie’s main antagonist. Morales is replacing The Favourtie’s Nicholas Hoult. Hoult dropped out of the film because of scheduling conflicts. Mission Impossible 7 is written and directed by Christopher McQuarrie. It continues the adventures of secret-agent Ethan Hunt played by Tom Cruise.
Documentary: Major athletes are joining forces for an interesting documentary. The Day That Sports Stood Still will document how the current pandemic has impacted the world of sports. Oklahoma City Thunder point-guard Chris Paul spearheaded the idea alongside producer Brian Glazer. Training Day’s Antoine Fuqua will direct. The movie is set to feature all-stars from every major international sport. The names of these all-star athletes are currently under wraps.
Horror: Blumhouse has tapped a director for its latest horror. Issa López will direct the currently in-development Our Lady of Tears, based upon a recent Vox article about a supernatural epidemic at an all-girls Catholic school in Mexico City. Epic Media’s Joshua Davis and Arthur Spector will produce with Jason Blum. López is coming off the successful horror, Tigers Are Not Afraid.
Industry: A new VP is joining Miramax. Munika Lay has been hired as the VP of Film for the entertainment company that recently struck a deal with ViacomCBS. ViacomCBS took a 49% stake in the company for a deal of 375 million dollars. Lay joins Miramax from MGM Motion Picture Group where she helped develop Legally Blonde 3 and The Addams Family 2.
