Comedy: Kevin Hart is teaming up with an old friend. Tim Story is in talks to direct and produce the new Kevin Hart comedy Night Wolf. Night Wolf follows Hart’s character discovering his father-in-law is the secret superhero known as Night Wolf. Story and Hart collaborated on Ride Along and both Think Like A Man titles. Dan Hernandez and Benji Samit will pen the script. Hart is set to produce as well.
A bad trip is making its way to Netflix. Netflix acquired the new comedy Bad Trip starring Eric Andre and Lil Res Howery. The movie follows two best friends on a hidden camera show as they play pranks along a road trip. Tiffany Haddish and Michaela Conlin star as well. Kitao Sakurai is set to direct.
A new superhero is coming to save us. The superhero film “Ball and Chain” starring Dwayne Johnson has found a home at Netflix. The streaming giant acquired the rights to the movie adapted from a 1990s comic about a married couple with superpowers. Emily Blunt will star opposite Johnson while both stars are set to produce.
Drama: An Ethiopian coming of age drama is getting worldwide distribution. French sales group Wide Management has acquired the worldwide rights for Running Against the Wind. The Jan Philipp Weyl directed film follows two friends whose life is changed by a single photograph. The movie was Ethiopia’s entry for the best international film Oscar.
Movie production is beginning to blossom once more. The film Blossoms from director Wong Kar-Wai is set to shoot in China’s Hengdian World Studios this July. It follows a man looking for status and romance in 1990s China. Blossom’s new beginning indicates Chinese film production is starting to return to business, as usual, following their COVID-19 outbreak.
Thriller: A popular director is casting a new movie. M. Night Shyamalan is finalizing deals with several stars on a secret project. The untitled film will be written, directed, and produced by Shyamalan. Actors in negotiations include Aaron Pierre, Alex Wolff, Eliza Scanlen, and Thomasin McKenzie. The movie has no release date
Industry: Indian movies are making there way to streamers worldwide. Amazon revealed their plan to release several Indian films on their platform including Ponmagal Vandhal, Penguin, Law, French Biryani, Shakuntala Devi: Human Computer, and Sufiyum Sujathayum. The move sparked a backlash from the Multiplex Association of India as well as the country’s second-largest cinema chain, Inox Cinemas. The former urged production companies to wait until movie theaters can open in order to help the industry while the latter expressed their disappointment over movies going straight to digital platforms.
