Global Flicks: Alfred Ntombella Stars In New Comedy ‘Who’s My Daddy?’; Amazon Prime Launching In Three New Countries In Southeast Asia; New Teaser for Wissam Charaf’s ‘Dirty, Difficult, Dangerous.’
Africa: Alfred Ntombela featured in the upcoming comedy Who’s My Daddy? The story follows a young man conducting DNA tests on those he suspects to be his father. Alfred will perform alongside hotshot influencer Nadia Jaftha. Sans Moonsamy (Red Room, 2019) will direct. The film is set to be released on September 2nd. See the trailer here.
Netflix has announced a multi-project deal with Mandlakayise Walter Dube. The partnership came to fruition through Netflix and Dube’s recent release Silverton Siege and will continue on with a new supernatural series titled The Brave Ones. The remainder of their upcoming projects has stayed under wraps as of now.
Asia: Akshay Kumar and Anand L. Rai (Atrangi Re, 2021) will team up on the new family film Raksha Bandhan. The plot follows Kumar attempting to wed his three sisters off but struggling to provide a dowry. The film is set to release in theaters on August 11th. See the trailer here.
Three countries are set to receive localized versions of Amazon Prime. Indonesia, Thailand, and the Philippines are slated to receive the streaming service this August. The push goes hand in hand with the new originals Amazon has been developing in the area. For Indonesia, Joko Anwar is amidst production on his feature Siege At Thorn High. In Thailand, Three Idiots And A Ghost, the story published on Wattpad, is currently in development as well under Amazon’s banner.
Middle East: A teaser has been released for Dirty, Difficult, Dangerous, by Wissam Charaf. The story follows a Syrian refugee named Ahmed who falls in love with an Ethiopian cleaning lady in Mehdia and faces endless obstacles to maintain their relationship. The film is set to premiere at the Venice Film Festival at the end of August. See the teaser here.
