Global Flicks: Netflix Drops Trailer For ‘Carter’; MultiChoice Africa Expands Educational Services; Doha Film Institute Offers Larger Funding Outreach
Africa: MultiChoice Africa is expanding its education services through customized Masterclass videos to assist various South African TV channels. The goal is to improve the overall production quality of up-and-coming South African TV and films. The MultiChoice Talent Factory Africa Film Academy has been successfully running for the past five years in East, West, and Southern Africa. Their new goal is to assist over 300 broadcasters and new-age filmmakers connected to TV channels in these territories.
Asia: Arjun Nohwar is set to take over as head of the South Asia management team for Warner Bros. Discovery as acting General Manager. This move coincides with the recent executive decisions that placed Tanaz Mehta as the head of ad sales in South Asia and Uttam Pal Singh as the head of the kids’ entertainment front. The networks that fall under the influence of these decisions in the South Asian territories include Eurosport, Cartoon Network, and Discovery+.
Netflix has released the trailer for its adrenaline-rush Korean action film Carter. The story follows a highly skilled operative with no memory of his identity, racing to find a cure for a fast-spreading disease. Notably, beyond the wild action stunts, the film will be presented entirely as a oner, meaning there will be no discernible camera cuts much in the same manner as 1917 and Hardcore Henry. Joo Wan will play Carter and Jung Byung-Gil (The Villainess) will be directing. The film will be released on August 5th.
Middle East: The Doha Film Institute has offered greater funding outreach to its participants. The Institute has been providing bi-annual grants for many years now to support emerging artists. As their success has grown, they’ve made progress to become more accommodating to filmmakers through providing for second-time filmmakers and expanding to TV and web series productions. Their spring 2022 candidates were recently announced and bolstered a remarkable 44 projects from over 30 nations as beneficiaries. With a steady incline, the Doha Film Institute continues to welcome filmmakers with opportunity and promise.
