Donna Summer and Stephen Curry Subject Of Special Presentation At Hot Docs

The Hot Docs, North America's largest documentary festival, has announced the first slate of films that will screen as part of its Special Presentations section during the festival's 30th edition, which will take place in Toronto from April 27 to May 7, 2023. Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival features over 200 films from around the world each year.

The Special Presentations program features high-profile subjects, award-winning films and filmmakers, and original perspectives on current events and pressing issues, which will screen in cinemas across downtown Toronto during the festival.

The presentation covers a wide range of topics, from a behind-the-scenes look at racial diversity in the fashion business to horrifying documentation of the recruiting of child soldiers in Uganda. Premieres include Black Barbie: A Documentary, a deep dive into the true story of Black Barbie, from her origins to her contemporary presence; Stephen Curry: Underrated, the story of one of the greatest NBA players today; Invisible Beauty, a look at Black model Bethann Hardison behind the runway and into her life as agent, activist, and a mentor in the fight for racial diversity; and Love to Love You, Donna Summer, featuring unseen footage of the life and times of African American singer and songwriter Donna Summer.

The full selection of films will be announced on March 28, 2023, with ticket packages now on sale online. Hot Docs supports the Canadian and international industry with professional development programs and a multi-million-dollar production fund portfolio and fosters education through documentaries.
