Daytime Emmys Sign New Two-Year Deal With CBS
The Daytime Emmys, presented by The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS), has agreed to a new two-year arrangement to keep the show on CBS while allowing premium subscribers to watch it live on Paramount+. The agreement also includes broadcast rights to the Daytime Emmys in 2024. The ceremony will be televised live from the Westin Bonaventure Los Angeles on Friday, June 16.
For the past three years, the Daytime Emmys ceremony has aired on CBS, after formerly airing on NBC, ABC, CBS, The CW, Pop, and HLN. From 2016 through 2019, the show has no broadcast partner. CBS averaged 2.8 million viewers for the 2022 edition.
The Daytime Emmy Awards will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2023. Soap operas, talk shows, game shows, instructional or DIY programming, and other genres are honored during the ceremony. NATAS and the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (ATAS), which produces the Primetime Emmy Awards, reorganized their categories last year. The two academies continue to operate independently, with NATAS also hosting the News & Documentary Emmy Awards, Sports Emmy Awards, and Children's & Family Emmy Awards.
Executives from both parties have made statements regarding the deal. NATAS president and CEO Adam Sharp expressed that he and the academy “are thrilled to be back with our incredible broadcast partner CBS for two years,” and added, “In commemorating the show’s golden anniversary this year, we look forward to honoring and celebrating the beloved world of daytime television.”
Mackenzie Mitchell, VP of Specials, Music, and Live Events at CBS explained how “CBS has a storied history in daytime and we are delighted to continue having the Daytime Emmys on the Network for the next two years.” She adds that everyone at CBS is looking forward to the show's 50th anniversary and spotlighting the finest of what daytime has to offer.
