The Peabody organization announced on Wednesday that the recipient of its 2023 Institutional Award will be NBC’s Today Show. The honor recognizes institutions and organizations, as well as series and programs, for their enduring body of work and iconic impact on the media landscape and the public imagination. The 71-year-old morning news program was selected by the Peabody Board of Jurors and shall receive the accolade during the 83rd Annual Peabody Awards event on June 11, 2023, in Los Angeles.

The Today Show has been "a morning staple for millions of Americans and a consistent cultural touchstone for truly compelling human tales, revolutionary news, and everyday delight," according to a statement from Peabody executive director Jeffrey Jones. Jones and the organization were pleased to recognize the program's decades of reporting, narrative, and cultural impact.

The Institutional Award has previously been given to 60 Minutes, Sesame Street, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, Kartemquin Productions, Frontline, and ITVS. The candidates for the 2023 Peabody Awards will be unveiled on April 11 and 13, with the organization's Trailblazer Award and Career Achievement Award winners presented on April 20.
