By being tapped into wellness and sharing his knowledge with others, Regisford has gained hundreds of thousands of followers across multiple platforms.

Malcolm Regisford’s health and wellness journey is intertwined with his career as a D1 athlete. Playing basketball at Colgate University, Regisford suffered an ankle injury that put his basketball career on hold. This injury inspired him to pursue mindfulness, not just in meditation and movement, but also in his diet. Regisford turned to veganism in search of balance. Not only did he find the balance that he sought, he also gained a passion for holistic health. 

Regisford began posting recipes and photos of his creations on his Instagram account tappedinwellness the summer of 2020. He began slowly with vegan versions of soul foods like mac and “cheese” and fried portobello mushrooms in place of fried chicken. He quickly followed this post up with vegan breakfast options including an omelet, featuring chickpeas in place of eggs, and a plant-based version of French toast. These posts were also closely followed by Regisford’s personal reflections on his health and wellness journey such as ruminations on the word “should” and “grounding”. 

Around this time, Regisford also began posting on his YouTube channel of the same name. His first video, “HOW TO: EASY VEGAN PESTO”, clocks in at just under six minutes, yet is easy for viewers to understand and follow along. His next video, “HOW TO MAKE EASY VEGAN BROWNIES (Gluten Free)”, promises a lot in the title. But does the recipe deliver?

A common complaint with vegan, gluten free, and other healthy recipes revolves around the taste. For example, the aforementioned chickpea omelet. Do scrambled chickpeas mimic and replace the taste of scrambled eggs? Of course, the answer is no. A better question, and one that Regisford seeks to answer, is is the food flavorful and nutritious? The answer is a resounding “Yes”. 

By constantly working in the realms of flavorful foods like soul food, international cuisine, and precise spice measurements, Regisford is clearly dedicated to not just showing how plant-based food can improve a person’s health, but showing that it can taste incredible too. 

@tappedinwellness LENTIL SMASHBURGER TACO INGREDIENTS: 1 Can of Lentils, drained and rinsed 1/2 of an Onion 1/4 of a Red Bell Pepper 4-5 White Mushrooms 1/2Cup of Gluten-Free Oats 2 tbs of Ketchup 1 tsp each: Salt Pepper Smoked paprika Dried thyme Garlic powder Onion powder Nutritional yeast Tortillas Burger sauce 1/3 cup vegan mayo 3 tbs ketchup 1 tbs mustard 2 tbs sweet relish Squeeze of lemon INSTRUCTIONS Add your peppers, onions and mushroom to a food processor. Pulse until all is roughly chopped and around the same size. Sauté this mixture in a pan over medium heat until most of the moisture has cooked out (optionally sprinkle salt to draw out more water). Remove from pan and set aside. In a small food processor add the oats and spice and blend until roughly combined. Then in a large bowl add the lentils, cooked veggies, blended oats and ketchup and mash to form the patty mix and it holds shape. Form patty on a tortilla and cook patty side down and optionally add a weight on top to keep it flat. Flip after about 3-5 mins, add cheese and steam to melt. For burger sauce add all ingredients in a small bowl and mix. The most popular recipe on Regisford's TikTok account is for a lentil smashburger taco with almost 800K views. This once again reflects Regisford’s penchant for flavorful dishes featuring smoked paprika, thyme, garlic and onion powder, and nutritional yeast. Regisford makes a burger patty using lentils as the protein for a taco, a genius combination that would taste incredible as both this plant-based option, but also as an idea for omnivores. 

But Regisford’s content doesn’t just stop at recipes, he also gives tips and tricks on meat replacements, plant-based grocery staples and necessities, and his personal thoughts on wellness ideas and mental health. With Regisford’s lifestyle and diet so intertwined with the mentality he developed after his injury, it makes sense that he shares these views with his audience. You can’t separate one from the other in his content, leading not only to the incredible recipes Regisford shares, but plenty of well-meaning and good advice. 

Hundreds of videos and hundreds of thousands of followers have led to Regisford’s latest venture – a cookbook. Published by Mango Media in August 2024, Tapped in Wellness: An Introduction Into Performance, Health and Mindful Living Through Plant-Based Eating showcases three of Regisford’s keys to a fruitful life. Not only does the book feature Regisford’s incredible plant-based recipes, readers can also take away self-improvement techniques and discover “why healing your body and mind can help your spiritual health.” Regisford hopes that his book will help readers “combat stressors with [his] self-practices” and “find [their] connection to happy living.” 

Regisford first set out to share his views online, now he can share them in bookstores.
