The Box: ‘Tropoka Island Of Treasure: All Stars’ hosts auditions for next season; Netflix sets release date for Spanish thriller ‘Intimacy’; Pa. Ranjith reveals new prison TV series

Asia: India has rolled out its latest financing plan for foreign productions. Any film or TV production that wishes to shoot in India can received up to 30% of their budget back from India. This policy has been established by India’s Film Facilitation Office in hopes of bringing more industry work to the nation. An additional 5% will be reimbursed to any productions that hire 15% or more of their staff from India.  

Pa. Ranjith has partnered up with Golden Ratio Films for his upcoming film and TV series. Titled Vettuvam (The Hunted), the film follows a noble and generous gangster that shelters himself in prison from his enemies. Within the prison, he is forced to coexist in a crude and harsh society. The TV series will follow the inner workings of this prison and will notably take a new character’s perspective every episode. The film will release in summer 2023 followed by the TV series.  

Africa: Tropika Island Of Treasure: All Stars is now hosting auditions for its next season. The challenging series pits an equal number of South African celebrities against newcomers in island games. Whoever wins the game of the episode decides who can stay and who can leave the island. In the end, the winner takes home a heaping cash prize. Auditions take place in Cape Town from May 20-22.  

The second season of Troukoors has released on Showmax. The series follows three best friends Luca the software developer, her sister Jessica the wedding planner, and Abi the baker. The hit romcom series follows the trios' ups and downs through their love lives.  

Don Francisco - Leon Bennett / Stringer

Latin America: A four-part docuseries on the longest-running variety show in the history of television has been ordered by Disney’s Onyx. Titled Gigante, the series will dive into the life of remarkable host Don Francisco and his show on Univision Sabado Gigante.  

Europe: New noir series A Dark, Dark Man is premiering on MHz Choice. The story follows a set of corruption-related murders in a closed-off Kazakh community. Police officer Beksat investigates these murders, starting with the death of a young boy in a far-off village. The series will be available to watch on July 19th.
