Hit Or Miss: OWN's Ambition Mid-Season Return

For those unacquainted with OWN’s Ambitions, one can expect a healthy amount of explosive drama, betrayal, and love. The story, set in the heart of Atlanta, focuses on the volatile lives of two of the city’s top attorneys. Stephanie Carlisle (Robin Givens) and Amara Hughes (Essence Atkins), former best friends from college, find their personal and professional lives insidiously intertwined. Other notable members of the cast include Brian J. White, Kendrick Cross, Brely Evans, and Erica Page.

Ambitions returns to the OWN network on November 12th after a short hiatus following the mid-season finale. The show has had a bit of a rocky trajectory since its premiere on June 18th. The first episode opened to a substantial 1.179 million viewers. The midseason finale on August 27th only garnered 791,000 viewers. It’s normal for ratings to fluctuate and it may have been a smart decision to have a midseason finale. This small break gives viewers a chance to consider their relationship to the show. There hasn’t been much in the way of mid-season promotion for the show. A small clip has been released on Youtube which briefly includes a greeting from Robin Givens. The video uses quick clips from explosive moments in the show, all meant to create hype around the show’s return.

The final episode left on a cliffhanger with significant implications for the main characters. Without spoiling too much for the uninitiated, the finale was surprising for many reasons. With a startlingly high body count, Ambitions raised the stakes to new levels for the powerful Atlanta families. A tvline article gives the details on everything that went down. Additionally, TVline has an interview with Robin Givens detailing her take on the midseason finale. It seems that while a good amount of viewers have left the show before the season finale, there is still a bit of time to catch up. Many of those who are still committed to watching sing the praises of this hot Atlanta soap opera.
