Reality Beat: ‘The Ho’s’, ‘The Bachelor’, and CBS Diversification
Docuseries: House of Ho is a docudrama covering the story and generations of the Ho family. The Ho family became wealthy as a result of their hard work and success of the American dream. They are Vietnamese-American and live in Houston, Texas. The show premiered on December 10 on HBO Max.
Game Shows: Discovery’s new show BattleBots: Bounty Hunters was released on January 4, 2020, on Discovery+. Veterans will be returning to the show and challenging others who are competing to become ‘bounty hunters.’ The regular season of BattleBots is available to watch on Thursdays on Discovery at 8 p.m. ET.
CBS plans to diversify its shows and increase non-white representation The network says reality shows must now have 50% percent non-white casts. They are trying to increase the representation of blacks, indigenous, and people of color. Shows like Survivor, Big Brother, and Love Island, will become more diverse in 2021. CBS has also mandated that its writers’ rooms must be staffed with a minimum of 40% people of color representation with the goal of increasing that number to 50% in the 2022-23 season. These changes will begin to take place next year.
Competitive Series: The new Bachelor contestant was announced earlier in June 2020. Matt James will be the next bachelor for Season 25. He is going to be the first black Bachelor on the show. Matt’s season will be filmed at the Nemacolin Woodlands Resort. Season 25 will begin to air on January 4, 2021, on ABC. The show finished filming in November.
NBC’s America’s Got Talent has been renewed for the 16th season. The show consists of a virtual format. Season 13 winner and magician Shin Lim made a special appearance on Saturday, November 14. All auditions for the upcoming season were held virtually. Last season, Terry Crews returned as host. Season 15’s judges’ panel consisted of Howie Mandel, Simon Cowell, and Heidi Klum and the new judge, actress Sofía Vergara.
