Hard Numbers: 'Love is Blind' Comes to Japan

Contestant: Celebrity Big Brother, hosted by Julie Chen Moonves, returned to CBS this year after last airing in 2019. Season 3 premiered on February 2 with an 18-49 demo rating of 0.78 and 3.759 million viewers, down -46.21% in the demo and -29.79% in viewership from season 2’s premiere. Since then, the season has averaged 0.47 in the demo and 2.557 viewers. Although the season saw its lowest rating on February 19th with a 0.20 demo, the following episode saw a 100.00% demo change and 87.84% viewers change, averaging 0.40 in the demo and 2.842 million viewers. This, however, is still down significantly from season 2’s average 1.05 demo rating and 4.36 million viewers. The break between each season as well as season 3’s only moderately famous cast could be factored in these lower ratings.
The Amazing Race has returned to CBS after a two-plus year-long COVID-19 hiatus. Overall, the ratings have not dropped significantly, the premiere citing a -1.43% demo change and 22.80% viewership change from the previous season’s premiere. Considering the break the series took, as well as some of the adjustments it has had to make in response to the pandemic, the ratings are holding rather steady. However, since the season premiere, the ratings have been slowly declining, averaging a -12.13% demo change and a -4.57% viewership decline. With no significant drop in ratings, it is still possible that the season averages will improve as audiences get back into the show.

Informative: Don Lemon Tonight, a talk show on CNN, officially joined CNN+ at the beginning of February 2022. The show’s cable ratings averaged 0.07 in the 18-49 demographic and 531,666 viewers over the weeks of February 7 through February 16. The show’s recent transition to CNN+ may have drawn viewers away from the live broadcast, resulting in the show’s low ratings for the month.
Whoopie Goldberg was suspended from The View for comments she made about the Holocaust on January 31, 2022. Since then, Goldberg has apologized for her remarks and accepted responsibility for her claims. During her two-week suspension, The View averaged 2.34 million viewers and 0.33 in the Women 25-54 rating. For the second week of her suspension, the program was down 283,000 viewers from the previous week. Goldberg returned to the talk show on February 14th.
Noella Bergener - The Real Housewives of Orange County
Docuseries: Although The Bachelor continues to be one of ABC’s highest-rated series, season 26 has experienced a drop in ratings from the previous season. So far, season 26 has averaged 0.72 in the 18-49 demographic and 3.369 million viewers; for comparison, season 25 averaged a 1.35 demo and 5.30 million viewers. The longer-than-usual gap between these seasons could have been a factor in this decrease.
Although people expected the ratings for season 16 of The Real Housewives of Orange County to increase after controversial housewife Kelly Dodd was removed from the show, the season produced a series low on February 9 and has overall seen lower ratings than season 15. While season 15 averaged 0.32 in the 18-49 demo and 1.035 million viewers, season 16’s first 10 episodes have produced an average of 0.26 in the demo and 883,000 viewers. The ratings dropped significantly after the rating feud between Dodd and reunion host Andy Cohen. Although Dodd was correct in her criticism of the season’s low live numbers, Cohen was also correct about the success of the delayed numbers. Since Bravo takes delayed viewings more strongly into account than the live ratings, the show has not been suffering as much as the live ratings seem to suggest.
Love Is Blind - Netflix
Streaming: Love is Blind: Japan started airing on Netflix in 2022. The spinoff currently has a 7.2/10 rating on IMDb and has been praised for its authenticity in comparison to the original version (Love is Blind). The audience enjoys the show’s increase in meaningful and heart-warming conversations, as well as its introduction of a cast from more diverse backgrounds and age groups. However, some of the age differences have made some viewers uncomfortable. Still, the show has so far found success in its honest presentations of cast members and the relationships between them.
