Reality Beat: Closing Up With The Kardashians Plus Love Island USA Additions

Docuseries: Netflix is releasing new titles for their subscribers this month. On this list are La Línea: Shadow of Narco and A Love Song for Latasha. The tagline for the Spanish crime docuseries La Línea reads “Stone's throw from Africa, the Spanish beach town of La Línea is a drug smuggling hot spot. But the police and mayor are determined to change that.” Because the show is a documentary, there is not a fixed cast. The show’s first season was released September 9.

A Love Song for Latasha will be released September 21. A Love Song for Latasha is about the African American girl who was shot in a store by a Korean store owner in 1992. The late music artist Tupac Shakur references Latasha and her unfortunate death many times throughout his music. The show is being branded as a “Netflix Original Documentary.” Latasha’s death is viewed by many as one of the leading factors in the 1992 Los Angeles Riots.

Game Shows: Popular Mexican stand-up comedian Mau Nieto has signed on to be host of season 4 of the game show 100 Latinos Dijeron. It began airing September 7 on Estrella TV. “100 Latinos Dijeron” is the Spanish version of Family Feud. Nieto is known for his 2018 Netflix special Living Sober… From the Bar and his continuing YouTube series El Frasco del Vivo. Estrella Media is one of the largest American Spanish-language content-producing companies, and is based in Burbank, California.

On ABC, The $100,000 Pyramid has returned to the air in the last week of August. The New York based series will continue to be hosted by former professional football player Michael Strahan. The series was originally supposed to start production of its fifth season in June but was postponed because of COVID-19 regulations. Strahan’s father Gene Strahan, who encouraged Michael Strahan’s involvement in football at a young age, died earlier this month. The $100,000 Pyramid is produced by Strahan’s SMAC Entertainment in association with Sony Pictures Television. The game show is executively produced by Strahan as well as Constance Schwartz-Morini and Vin Rubino.

Competitive Series: Love Island (USA) will introduce its first-ever Casa Amor this year. The boys and the girls who are currently in the Las Vegas villa will be split into two groups by gender. One of the groups (either all the boys or all the girls) will be taken to another villa, Casa Amor (Love House in Spanish). There, the group will meet five new islanders of the opposite sex. The contestants who stay in the current villa (the other group) will also greet five new islanders of the opposite sex. This will challenge preexisting relationships. Casa Amor will last six days. When the six days are over, all islanders will have to decide between their original partners or pick the new person that they have met through the Casa Amor shuffle. Ten new islanders will be introduced on Love Island USA through Casa Amor. The five new girls joining the show are Mercades Schell , GiNiele Reitzell, Sher Suarez, Laurel Goldman, and Faith Tyrell. The five new boys being introduced to Love Island USA Season 2 are Pat Albasha, Jalen Noble, Mike Jenkerson, Aaron Owen, and De'Andre Heath.

The 29th season of Dancing with the Stars will be returning on ABC. Earlier this month the full cast was released. The season was released September 14. Tyra Banks will be the host. The show will stay in its Monday slot but the Bachelorette will move to Tuesday nights. Both shows have large audiences, so this decision may help retain both fan bases. Some of the contestants (or Stars) on the show include Justina Machado, Skai Jackson, Vernon Davis, AJ Mclean, Jeannie Mai, Nelly, and Charles Oakley. Justina Machado and Skai Jackson are both sitcom actresses. Vernon Davis and Charles Oakley are both professional athletes (football and basketball, respectively). Jeannie Mai is a stylist and talk show host on The Real, and Nelly is a Grammy award winning music artist.
