Receipts: Jonathan Majors’ Movies Lead The March 3 Weekend Box Office With ‘Creed 3’ And ‘Ant-Man & The Wasp: Quantumania’

Domestic: Michael B. Jordan makes his directorial debut with Creed III. The film, also starring Jordan, debuted at number one at the box office following its premiere on March 3. With a $75 million budget, it grossed $71.2 million domestically on its opening weekend and an additional $43 million at the international box office, making it the best opening weekend for a sports film. The film’s cast includes Tessa Thompson, Jonathan Majors, Canelo Álvarez, Selenis Leyva, and Wood Harris.

Marvel Studio’s Ant-Man & The Wasp: Quantumania, starring Jonathan Majors as the film’s antagonist, was bumped to second place at the weekend box office with the premiere of Creed III. Majors’ character is rumored to have a massive impact on upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe projects. The third installment in the Ant-Man series was made with a $200 million budget and has earned domestically $190.2 million. Cocaine Bear, starring O’Shea Jackson Jr., was released theatrically on February 24 by Universal Pictures and debuted at number two on its opening weekend. As of March 10, the film has moved to third place on its second weekend and has grossed $45.5 million domestically and $13.1 million internationally, for a total of $58.6 million worldwide. The dark comedy about a bear who goes on a coke-fueled rampage, reportedly based on true events, was filmed on an estimated $35 million budget.

Operation Fortune: Ruse de guerre debuted at number seven after its March 3 domestic release. The film was released internationally on January 4. The preview screenings for Scream VI on March 9 brought in $5.7 million, potentially leading to the franchise’s best opening weekend. The horror slasher film is projected to gross around $30-40 million during its opening on March 10 weekend. International: Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba—To the Swordsmith Village is a Japanese animated dark fantasy action film directed by Haruo Sorozaki and based on the manga series of the same name. The film was released theatrically on March 3 and has grossed $22.4 million worldwide, with $12.2 million grossed outside the United States and Canada as of March 10.

A Guilty Conscience, also known as Dú Shé Dà Zhuàng, was released theatrically in Hong Kong and China on January 21. As of March 10, the mystery crime thriller has grossed an estimated $21 million worldwide. The film’s cast includes Jay Cheung, Terry Lam, and Wai-Lun Ng.

Streaming: We Have a Ghost premiered on Netflix on February 24. The supernatural comedy film has ranked number one on Netflix’s Global Top Ten list since its release, accumulating an estimated 83.1 million watched hours. We Have a Ghost is based on the short story Ernest by Geoff Manaugh and includes Jahi Winston and Anthony Mackie in leading roles.

Netflix’s The Strays is a British horror thriller starring Ashley Madekwe and premiered on the streaming platform on February 22. The film follows a woman (Madekwe) living in an upper-middle-class neighborhood in England as a private school headmistress attempting to hold her life together after her past resurfaces. Nathaniel Martello-White directed the drama thriller, with Bukky Bakray, Jordan Myrie, Samuel Paul Small, and Maria Almeida in the cast. The Strays has ranked second on Netflix’s Global Top Ten List since its release, accumulating 43.3 million watched hours.
