Resistance: 1942’s producer Jonah Hirsch is working on a biopic about Roberto Clemente. The film will be based on the baseball icon’s family’s book, Clemente: The True Legacy of an Undying Hero, and will “tell his inspirational life story inclusive of both his baseball career as well as his fight for Latin American equality and social justice.” The news comes nearly 50 years after the athlete’s passing. In a statement, Roberto Clemente Jr. comments:

“I recall sitting in a meeting with our mother in the summer of 1974 about making this film, and there have been plenty of announcements over the past 50 years including major players in the industry, but nothing ever got done. Now, for the first time, we feel we found the right partners. Clemente fans have been waiting a long time for this film and we will make sure it was worth the wait.”

The cast, official title, and release date are currently unknown.

Documentary: Criterion has acquired TVOD rights for the Oscar-nominated documentary All That Breathes. The film, directed by Shaunak Sen, follows two brothers from Delhi, India, who spend their lives rescuing injured birds. Although a home video release date is currently unknown, Criterion has commented that All That Breathes will be available on iTunes, Apple, Amazon, and Vudu. Director Sen, on his film, comments:

“So often what we call beauty is a function of time. Because if you keep turning up and shooting, at some point life rewards you with accidents. We have our long track shots ready and if out of the blue a deflection of something comes, et cetera, that’s great. So much of documentary is a kind of radical embrace of the unscriptedness of the world.”
