Valdez Flagg Will Receive Special Honors at 75th DGA Awards

The Directors Guild of America (DGA) announced on Thursday, December 22, 2022, the recipient of one of the guild’s top honors at the 75th Annual DGA Awards will be African American stage manager Valdez Flagg. Flagg will be honored with the Franklin J. Schaffner Achievement Award in recognition of his career in the industry and service to the DGA.

DGA president Lesli Linka Glatter stated he views Flagg as an individual who has steadfastly worked to support the rights of his fellow members while being one of the top directorial team professionals in the industry for more than 30 years. He credits Flagg for contributing to the Guild’s Councils and Committees and for upholding the Guild’s priorities for the benefit of all members.

Since serving as a stage manager on the 1987 Lou Rawls Parade of Stars Telethon variety spectacular, Flagg has been a member of the DGA. He has worked on a variety of live productions, including the Democratic National Convention, In Performance at the White House for three presidential administrations, the Oscars, American Music Awards, Grammy Awards, ESPY Awards, NFL Honors, Essence Awards, NAACP Image Awards, and Golden Globe Awards. The Oscars and James Burrows, Genius: A Night for Ray Charles, and Live in Front of a Studio Audience: Norman Lear's All in the Family and The Jeffersons, all of which received DGA Awards, are among his other notable works.

The 75th Annual DGA Awards will take place on Feb. 18, 2023, at the Beverly Hilton.
