The Game Awards Sets Its 2022 Date And Introduces A New Awards Category

Game Awards

The ninth annual Game Awards, which honor the best in video games, will take place on December 8, 2022. The ceremony will be broadcast live and free on over 40 digital platforms, including YouTube, Twitch, Twitter, Facebook, and TikTok Live, from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. Additionally, the Game Awards will feature The IMAX Experience, a live community event allowing gamers from all over the world to experience The Game Awards.

The 2022 Game Awards will have an addition to their ceremony, the Best Adaptation category. This brand-new category will honor creative work that faithfully transposes video game intellectual property to other forms of popular media, such as theatrical films, streaming series, podcasts, novels, and comic books. The Game Awards' creator and executive producer, Geoff Keighley, believes this is the best time to recognize excellence in bringing the worlds of video games to other mediums because there are so many game-inspired initiatives in the entertainment industry.

Keighley will executively produce the show alongside Kimmie Kim, with LeRoy Bennett serving as creative director, and Richard Preuss as director. The 2022 Game Awards will also feature musical performances, including the return of The Game Awards Orchestra, conducted by Lorne Balfe.
