Roy Wood Jr. Returns To Host The Webby Awards
For the second year in a row, African American comedian, actor, and producer Roy Wood Jr. will host the 2023 Webby Awards, which honor the finest of the Internet. The Daily Show correspondent will emcee the 27th annual ceremony, which will be held on May 15, 2023, at Cipriani Wall Street in New York.
Following the announcement, Wood expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to host the Webby Awards again. "Also, do people still say 'World Wide Web’? (sic)" he joked. “I'm not sure. I'm a father, I’ve got [expletive] to do, and I can't keep up with all the trends." In a statement, managing director Ciel VanderVeen said of Wood's previous appearance hosting the Webby Awards in 2022: "Roy's wit, humor, and musical 'In Memoriam' made last year's Webby Awards a night to remember. We are thrilled to have Roy back to host the show this year and to celebrate the best of the Internet with him!"
Wood will also headline the White House Correspondents' Dinner on April 29, and his third stand-up special, Imperfect Messenger, will be available on Paramount+. Only Murders in the Building, Better Call Saul, Space Force, The Last O.G., and the PBS documentary The Neutral Ground, for which he served as executive producer and was nominated for an Emmy Award, are among his other credits.
Organizations like The Hollywood Reporter, Apple, and Netflix as well as notable individuals Selena Gomez, Harry Styles, Doja Cat, Lizzo, Lupita Nyong'o, BTS, Anderson Cooper, the cast of Ted Lasso, and RuPaul are among those to be recognized in various categories including podcasts, games, websites, video, social, and apps. The winners will be announced on April 25.
In addition to the Webby Award, which is chosen by the Academy, all nominations are eligible for the Webby People's Voice Award, which is decided by the online community.
