Producers Guild Of America Awards Goes Digital
The Producers Guild of America (PGA) will alter its members' screening procedures. The PGA collaborated with Indee, a company specializing in secure and quality digital viewing experiences, to create a portal where studios can share several projects directly with PGA members. Motion pictures in theaters, documentaries, animated films, and films for television or streaming would all fall under this category. Future additions to the lineup will include special categories and television series. Members will get access to these projects through apps that work on all major platforms, including AppleTV, iOS, Roku, Amazon Fire, and Chromecast.
This move is driven by environmental concerns brought up in the past. Since the formation of the PGA’s Green Initiative in 2008, the Guild has been seeking ways to reduce its carbon footprint. To move forward with the initiative, the PGA has been discouraging the mailing of hard-copy screeners to its 8,000-plus members. The PGA has even promised to outright ban this process by the next season. As a substitute, the PGA plans to accommodate studios by allowing them to mail DVD screeners and links to members via previously approved mailing houses. The Guild’s goal is to move away from hard copy screeners by 2024.
