Oscars Won’t Air 8 Categories for Their 2022 Live Broadcast
Just when they took a step forward with assigning three comedians as hosts, the Oscars took another eight steps back with their latest decision to cut the live airing of eight categories. The cut categories will be presented their awards off-air and said presentations will be edited into the broadcast. The awards cut from the live broadcast are for documentary short, film editing, makeup and hairstyling, original score, production design, animated short, live-action short, and sound. The nominees for those categories were informed of the change during a Zoom call on Tuesday.
This change is due to the Oscars dealing with pressure to get higher ratings, and one of the options taken was cutting the eight categories. The alteration to the ceremony appears to be made by the Oscars to make room for more comedy from the three comedian hosts, display more film clips, and conduct more musical numbers. Suffice it to say the decision has caused a backlash on social media. The Oscars tried to do this same routine back in 2019 but reneged on their decision due to backlash from people in the film and entertainment industries. Perhaps that will happen as well for 2022.
