11th Annual Indie Series POC Awards Winners
The 11th Annual Indie Series Awards took place on June 18, 2020 in a virtual ceremony. As previously reported, there were a total of 51 people of color and POC-themed projects nominated across 23 awards categories.
During the ceremony, the following people of color and POC-themed projects took home the award.
Best Lead Actress - Drama: Actress Chauntae Pink took home the award for Poz Roz. Pink’s character, Rozzlyn Mayweather, explores her shaky world after an HIV+ diagnosis.
Best Supporting Actor - Drama: Actor Derrell Whitt won his award for his work in A Place Called Hollywood.
Best Guest Actor - Drama: Actor A Martinez was awarded for his performance as Nardo Ramos on The Bay. He is also known for his work on Longmire and Santa Barbara.
Best Ensemble - Drama: Bronx SIU’s cast include Denise Boutte, Ameer Baraka, Eddie Davenport, Keeland Ellis, Jillian Ferry, Leticia Jimenez, Shanti Lowry, Vanessa Lyon, and Brian White.
Best Guest Actress - Comedy: Jonée B Shady won the award for Poor Us. Shady plays Rosenda in the series about two gay, fraternal twin brothers cut off by their rich father and forced to live in Van Nuys.
Best Soundtrack: Malachi Rivers took home another award for the series Poz Roz. Rivers is also a producer as well as plays Jabbar in the series.
Best Original Song: The song “Letting Go” by Davi Akei won the 3rd of three awards for Poz Roz. The song has been played 41K times on SoundCloud.
Best Makeup: Nana Fischer & Darci Snider won the award for their work on Ozara and Katessa. (Note: Nana is Asian)
