‘Days of Our Lives' Actress Victoria Grace Loses Daytime Emmy Nomination After Misunderstanding

Victoria Grace - Peacock

Victoria Grace, who plays Wendy Shin on Days of Our Lives, has withdrawn her nomination for Outstanding Younger Performer in a Daytime Drama Series due to an apparently unintentional rule breach.

The main issue is that Grace should never have been nominated for the accolade because nominees must now be 18 or younger, yet Grace turned 21 before the eligibility period for the 2023 awards even started. The error, on the other hand, isn't too far-fetched. The Daytime Emmys modified the regulations in 2021 to make it age 21 or younger for the Younger Performer Award, which was previously open to actors 25 years old or younger. For 2023, this was changed to 18 or younger.

Grace announced the news herself via Instagram: “I was honored to be nominated for a Daytime Emmy and to be recognized by the Academy. Unfortunately, there was a huge misunderstanding across the board regarding the rules for this year’s category. This is obviously a surprise and I am heartbroken, but in fairness to all, I‘ll be rescinding my nomination. I wish the best of luck to all the nominees. I will continue to work hard to earn another Daytime Emmy nomination next year!”

As a result of Grace’s withdrawal, only three nominees qualify in the Younger Performer category: Cary Christopher (Days of Our Lives), Eden McCoy (General Hospital), and Henry Joseph Samiri (The Bold and the Beautiful). The total number of nominations for the soap Days of Our Lives reduced from 11 to 10. The 2023 Daytime Emmys will be handed out on Friday, June 16, 2023, at 9pm/8pm central on CBS.
