Angela Bassett Set To Receive Spotlight Award From Costume Designers Guild

ANGELA BASSETT - GILBERT FLORES

At the 25th annual Costume Designers Guild (CDG) gala, African American actress Angela Bassett, currently nominated for an Oscar as well as a recent Golden Globe and Critics Choice Award winner, will be presented with the Spotlight Award. The CDG Spotlight Award recognizes individuals whose abilities and professional trajectory personify a persistent dedication to quality, including a particular understanding of the function and significance of costume design.

Terry Gordon, president of the CDG, claims that the organization is honored to be celebrating the career of Angela Bassett. Gordon states that “Her collaborations with costume designers have captivated audiences around the globe for decades, making her the perfect fit for our Spotlight Award this year.”

With six career Emmy nominations, Bassett has also been nominated for two Oscars—one for Wakanda Forever and another for 1994's What's Love Got to Do with It. For her performance as Queen Ramonda in the Black Panther’s 2019 sequel, she shared an ensemble SAG Award. She made her acting debut as a teenager in the soap opera Ryan's Hope in 1975 and has since racked up more than 100 credits in a career that started in the mid-1980s.

Past recipients of the guild’s Spotlight Awards include Kerry Washington and Halle Berry. The 25th CDG Awards ceremony will be held on February 27, 2023, at the Fairmont Century Plaza in Los Angeles.
