72nd Annual Writers Guild Award Winners

Original Screenplay: The current darling of the industry Parasite, is one of the rare occasions in which a foreign film written by people of color took home the honors. It reminds us that good writing is a language understood by all.
Writers: Bong Joon Ho and Han Jin Won. Story by Bong Joon Ho for Neon.
New Series: With a diverse writer's room and a diverse cast led by the Oscar, multiple Emmy, and NAACP Image Award-winning actress Regina King. The Watchmen excels with its contemporary take based on the DC comic book series.
Writers: Lila Byock, Nick Cuse, Christal Henry, Branden Jacobs-Jenkins, Cord Jefferson, Jeff Jensen, Claire Kiechel, Damon Lindelof, Stacy Osei-Kuffour, Tom Spezialy, and Carly Wray for HBO.
Daytime Drama: The Young and the Restless took home the award for an episode centered around the funeral related to the death of one daytime's longest African American character Neil Winters that mirrored the real-life death of actor Kristoff St. John. Who originated and continued in the role until his untimely passing on February 3, 2019.
Writers: Amanda L. Beall, Jeff Beldner, Sara Bibel, Matt Clifford, Annie Compton, Christopher Dunn, Sara Endsley, Janice Ferri Esser, Mellinda Hensley, Anne Schoettle, Natalie Minardi Slater, and Teresa Zimmerman for CBS.
Children's Episodic and Specials: Family Reunion took home the award for an episode titled "Remember Black Elvis” centered around the retelling of the McKellan family history covering slavery, Jim Crow and the jazz era during the Harlem Renaissance.
