Small Screen: Letitia Wright Joins Season Two Of Channel 4's I Am; FBI: International Casts Carter Redwood; New Action Comedy Pilot From Randall Park and Michael Golamco for Hulu
Broadcast: The female-led anthology drama from Channel 4, I Am, has just released a trailer for its upcoming second season. Dominic Savage is attached as director and will write each episode in collaboration with whomever is the lead that episode. Letitia Wright, known for her role in Black Panther, Lesley Manville from The Crown and Suranne Jones of Gentlemen Jack are all on board as leads. The show seeks to explore ‘themes including relationships, mental health, and empowerment, Wright headlines I Am Danielle, while Manville and Jones will lead I Am Victoria and I Am Maria respectively. Each story features moments that are emotionally raw, thought-provoking, and personal.’ I Am will premiere on August 5th.
Cable: Dick Wolf and CBS team up again for a third spinoff series of Wolf’s FBI drama franchise entitled FBI: International. Carter Redwood has been cast as part of the series regulars playing a member of the FBI Fly Team in Budapest. The show centers on the daily lives of elite operatives in the FBI’s Fly Team. ‘Headquartered in Budapest, they travel the world with the mission of tracking and neutralizing threats against American citizens wherever they may be. Not allowed to carry guns, the Fly Team relies on intelligence, quick thinking and pure brawn as they put their lives on the line to protect the U.S. and its people.’ Wolf executive produces with showrunner Derek Haas and Matt Olmstead as well as director/executive producer Michael Katleman and Wolf Entertainment’s Arthur Forney and Peter Jankowski. FBI International will premiere September 21 with a three-hour crossover event alongside the show that started it all, FBI and FBI: Most Wanted in a special time, 10 p.m., before moving to its regular 9 p.m. berth the following week.
Streaming: Ugly Betty alum America Ferrera has joined the cast of Apple TV’s limited series WeCrashed. She will be starring alongside Jared Leto and Anne Hathaway. The show is based on the Wondery podcast of the same name and will depict the rise and fall of WeWork. The logline is as follows: “the eight-episode drama will track the greed-filled rise and inevitable fall of WeWork, one of the world’s most valuable startups, and the narcissists whose chaotic love made it all possible.” Ferrera will play Elishia Kennedy, ‘a brilliant young entrepreneur who’s seduced into joining WeWork and whose life is turned upside down as a result. Leto and Hathaway are playing WeWork founders Adam and Rebekah Neumann. Kyle Marvin also stars as WeWork co-founder and “chief culture officer” Miguel McKelvey.’ Lee Eisenberg and Drew Crevello are attached as showrunners. With John Requa and Glenn Ficarra directing.
Randall Park and Michael Golamco known for writing Netflix’s Always Be My Maybe team up once again to write the half hour action-comedy pilot for Hulu. Lana Condor is attached to star in the pilot entitled Take Out. The plot is as follows: ‘Iris (Condor) struggles to balance her personal life with her restaurant job — and her secret mission of destroying an evil crime syndicate determined to take over New York City. The series is described as a genre-bender that takes an irreverent look at the modern-day relationship comedy while also deconstructing one-dimensional tropes from martial arts pop culture.’
Not one but two SNL cast members are moving from the late night series to HBO Max. Punkie Johnson and Ego Nwodim are joining season two of the anthology series Love Life. Other actors attached to the project are Leslie Bibb, John Earl Jelks, Arian Moayed, Kimberly Elise and Blair Underwood. The plot for the sophomore season centers on The Good Place’s William Jackson Harper as Marcus Watkins. Marcus is thrown headfirst into the dating game after exiting a long term relationship. The Daily Show’s Jessica Williams is Mia or the one Marcus falls for. The cast also includes Chris “Comedian CP” Powell, Janet Hubert, Jordan Rock and Maya Kazan. With recurring appearances from the season one regulars Anna Kendrick, Zoë Chao, Peter Vack, Sasha Compére and Nick Thune.
