Small Screen: AMC's ‘Interview With The Vampire,’ Fox's ‘Our Kind Of People,’ Disney + Has Three New Upcoming Marvel Shows
Broadcast: Fox’s new drama Our Kind Of People has cast Raven Goodwin and Nicole Chanel Williams in two new recurring roles alongside Yaya DaCosta, Morris Chestnut and Joe Morton. The new drama is executive produced by Karin Gist and Lee Daniels, with Gist also writing the series. ‘Goodwin will play Josephine, Angela’s (DaCosta) old college roommate and close friend. An accepted member of The Bluffs community, easy-going and good-humored, Josephine tries to ease Angela’s entry into the close-knit society. Williams will portray Taylor. This 17-year-old fun-loving and open girl is Lauren’s (Rhyon Nicole Brown) best friend, who enjoys the disruptive effect Nikki (Alana Bright) has on their tight circle of rich kids.’
Cable: Jacob Anderson, known for his portrayal of Grey Worm on HBO’s Game of Thrones, has been cast in AMC’s television adaptation of Anne Rice’s Interview with the Vampire. Sam Reid has also been tapped to play Lestat. Created by Rollin Jones, he will executive produce with Mark Johnson, Anne Rice, and Christopher Rice. Interview with the Vampire will premiere in 2022 and is slated to begin production later this year. There will be eight episodes in the first season.
Streaming: Disney+ will be adding three new Marvel limited series with as announced in December. One of the shows is entitled Armor Wars. Although the plot details are scarce, it is known Don Cheadle will be reprising his role as James Rhodes better known as War Machine. The limited series will be centered around one pertinent question: ‘What would happen if Stark technology fell into the wrong hands?’ Fortunately, Armor Wars has found its writer. Yassir Lester, known for his past collaboration with Cheadle on Showtime’s Black Monday, will be penning the series. A director is not yet attached to the project however, Kevin Fiege will be acting as a producer as he has for the prior Marvel television series.
HBO Max has a new pirate comedy in the works entitled Our Flag Means Death. Samba Schutte has joined the project in a recurring role however details about his character have not yet been released. He will be working alongside Rhys Darby, Taika Waititi, Ewen Bremner, David Fane, Nat Faxon, Nathan Foad, Joel Fry, Leslie Jones, Samson Kayo, Guz Khan, Rory Kinnear, Matt Maher, Kristian Nairn, Con O’Neill, and Vico Ortiz. The Showrunner will be David Jenkins, who created the series with Garrett Basch and Dan Halsted. Our Flag Means Death is ‘loosely based on the true adventures of Stede Bonnet (Darby), a pampered aristocrat who abandoned his life of privilege to become a pirate.’
Liu Cixin’s sci-fi trilogy is being adapted into a Netflix series entitled Three-Body Problem. Oscar-nominated Hong Kong director Derek Tsang, known for his work on Better Days, will direct. Alexander Woo co-created the adaptation with David Benioff and D.B. Weiss from Game Of Thrones who will also serve as showrunners/executive producers. Woo will be penning the script and executive producing. The plot is as follows: ‘Three-Body Problem is a drama series inspired by Liu’s epic science fiction trilogy, which tells the story of what happens when humanity discovers that we are not alone in the universe. The first book tells the story of Ye Wenjie, who, following her father’s death at the hands of the Red Guards during the Cultural Revolution, attempts to help aliens invade Earth, while different factions on Earth plan different ways of welcoming the extra-terrestrials.’
