Ratings Report: 'Roswell' Sees Viewer Decline
Broadcast: As summer begins, broadcast television have entered a quiet season after many series aired their season finales. Over at CW, Roswell, New Mexico is approaching its season finale with two episodes left. The latest episode aired to 544,000 viewers on June 1, a 15.66 percent decrease from the week before.
Due to the pandemic, daytime television was shut down in mid-March. Only two soap operas were left with some new episodes to air: on May 18, General Hospital had 2.17 million viewers, a 1.54 percent increase from the week before; Days of Our Lives aired to 1.96 million viewers, 1.16 percent decrease from the week before. The 47th Daytime Emmy Awards nominations were announced on May 21, with 53 nominations in POC themed productions and diverse programming.
Cable: Starz’s Vida is nearing the end of the series, with only 70,000 viewers tuned in for the latest episode, a 18.6 percent decrease from the week before. The LGBTQ + Hispanic series might be up for a spin-off, star Mishel Prada teased the idea during her interview with The Wrap. HBO’s Insecure, also wrapping up the season, lured 384,000 viewers in the last episode, a 12.61 percent increase from the week before. Insecure has been renewed for a fifth season. Also been renewed for a fourth season by BBC America, Killing Eve aired its season finale to 393,000 viewers, 10.08 percent increase from the week before; in the 18-49 demo, the finale attracted a rating of 0.11, a raving 22.22 percent increase from the previous episode.
International: Some South African series’ April ratings were left out from the last ratings report. SABC2’s second most viewed series 7De Laan had 2,166,287 viewers, and third most viewed Lithapo had 2,106,129 viewers. On ETV, Scandal remains the most view series with 6,255,257 viewers, followed by Rhythm City with 4,863,649 viewers. Imbewu: the Seed falls third with 4,712,087 viewers. On DSTV, The Queen, with 2,360,221 viewers, was bumped to the second place by Gomora with 2,510,542 viewers. The River has 1,409,380 viewers, and Isibaya had 1,108,537 viewers.
In Korea, Free-to-air TV’s Korean dramas’ ratings from the week of May 25-31, 2020 are as follow: Good Casting (SBS)-7.8%; The King: Eternal Monarch (SBS)-6.7%; Dinner Mate (MBC)-5.6%; Kkondae Intern (MBC)-4.8%; Soul Machine (KBS2)-2.3%; Born Again (KBS2)-1.6%.
Cable Korean dramas’ ratings for the same week are as follow: Hospital Playlist (tvN)-14.1%; When My Love Blooms (tvN)-4.1%; Kingmaker: The Change of Destiny (TV Chosun)-3.9%; Mystic Pop-up Bar (JTBC)-2.6%; Team Bulldog: Off-duty Investigation (OCN)-2.3%; Oh My Baby (tvN)-2.0%; Sweet Munchies (JTBC)-1.3%.
Streaming: Season 2 of Ramy was released by Hulu on May 29, 2020. The new season of the series was welcomed by the audience with rave reviews and a 96% on Rotten Tomatoes. Viewers are excited to see the series’ stupid humor and intelligence continue to co-exist in the second season, which is described as even more moving and profane, with moments of seriousness revealed when the absurdity fades.
