Ratings Report: ‘Rescue: HI-Surf’ Rides The Wave, ‘KAOS’ Reigns

Broadcast: FOX’s newest emergency drama, Rescue: HI-Surf, premiered with its first two episodes of the season on September 22nd and 23rd. Combined, these two episodes for the P2+ household demographic averaged 3,558,500 viewers with a rating of 2.6. It performed best on its premiere night with 4,772,000 P2+ household viewers, whereas its second night had a viewership of 2,345,000. The show's first night also performed better with P18-49 where it had 1,488,500 viewers but it saw a drop on its second night with a viewership in this demographic of 268,500 viewers. Rescue: HI-Surf’s numbers indicate that its audience skews toward the older demographic, which is common for rescue drama TV shows. 

Rescue: HI-Surf is set on the Hawaiian island of Oahu’s North Shore where captain Sonny Jennings–played by Robbie Magasiva, and his core team of lifeguards monitor the dangerous waters. The cast also includes Arielle Kebbel (John Tucker Must Die, Vampire Diaries), Zoe Cipres (Maneater, Just A Drill) Kekoa Kekumano (Aquaman, The White Lotus), Adam Demos (Sex/Life, Falling Inn Love) Ian Anthony Dale (Hawaii Five-0, Tekken), and Alex Aiono (See You On Venus, Finding Ohana). Rescue: HI-Surf airs new episodes every Monday on FOX.

Streaming: Netflix's latest take on Greek mythological lore, titled KAOS, starring Jeff Goldblum as Zeus, revolves around a prophecy between the arrogant and corrupt gods, three mortals, and Prometheus. The series premiered all episodes on August 29th where it had accumulated 511 million minutes of viewership on the streamer and was ranked in 4th place in original streaming TV series according to the Nielsen Top Ten streaming list. Additionally, it has received a 74% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes with an 83% audience rating. 

KAOS is a British mythological black comedy television series created by Charlie Covell for Netflix. The series is centered around an insecure Zeus, played by Goldblum, who lashes out and tortures Prometheus, played by Stephen Dillane, for interfering with human activity. Prometheus then contributes to a prophecy which would set three mortals into unwitting involvement in helping to overthrow Zeus. The cast also features Janet McTeer as Hera (Ozark, The Menu), Aurora Perrineau as Eurydice (Westworld, Passengers), Killian Scott (Damnation, Traders) as Orpheus,  Misia Butler (The School For Good and Evil, Kiss Me First) as Caeneus, Nabhaan Rizwan (Industry, 1917) as Dionysus, Debi Mazar (Batman Forever, Goodfellas) as Medusa, Leila Farzad (I Hate Suzy, The Marvels) as Ariadne, David Thewlis (Wonder Woman, The Big Lebowski) as Hades, and more.
