Ratings Report: 'Queens’ Underwhelms In Debut, 'The King's Affection'

Eve, Brandy, Naturi Naughton, and Nadine Velazquez - Queens/ABC

Broadcast: Their reign has just begun, the triple threat trio of hip hop stars from the early 90s era has returned to the stage to take back the throne. Their vacancy from the limelight has led to new players taking their place as they faded into obscurity and domesticity. The “Nasty Bitches” comprised of Eve as “Brianna a.k.a Professor Sex”, Brandy as Naomi "Xplicit Lyrics", Naturi Naughton as Jill "Da Thrill" and Nadine Velazquez as Valeria "Butter Pecan” answer the question of whether they can return to the stardom that inspired their talent and love for performance, and again wrestle the fame that comes with it. The season premiere opened to a 1.75 million viewership count, but lost out on the key demographic of women 18-49 by airing late and directly after The Bachelorette which had a 8.3 ratings share of women compared to the 4.0 garnered by Queens is most likely due to its less than ideal premiere numbers. Whether Queens will gain more still remains to be seen, but competing with some of the most popular shows for women on the same night might prove difficult for it in the long run.

Monti Washington - Games People Play/BET

Cable:  As social media stars and the wives of athletes become more and more prominent influencers, role-models, and public figures. People like Ayesha Curry inspire and glow in the limelight that their husbands created, what they do with that and how they deal with it has fallen under scrutiny as they become bigger and bigger stars. This idea was translated into a novel by Angela Burt Murray the author of Games Divas Play, casting a light on the vainglorious, dramatic, and fiercely competitive lives of ambitious women in the professional sports world. Games People Play starring the wife of the late Nipsey Hussle, Laura London, got off to a favorable start as it clearly has found an audience despite its season highs being almost 300,000 above the 480,000 viewers that tuned in for the season two premiere as the previous season averaged about 481,000 viewers for BET.

Sierra Capri, Jason Genao, Brett Gray, and Diego Tinoco - Netflix

Streaming:  One of Netflix’s only complete dramedy that has routinely received high praise for the cast’s performances, storylines and its ridiculous endings that fans have anxiously been waiting to see for going on two years now. With a time skip and storylines wrapping up and ending, the creators made sure fans know this will be the final season of On My Block despite a spinoff in the works. The lives of these four high-schoolers has been vastly entertaining and season four is no different with it receiving high marks on Rotten Tomatoes with a fresh 83% rating, but with audience scores more divided on the ends of their favorite characters and leaving a mixed 47% rating. It currently is still sitting on Netflix’s top streaming shows at number 10.

Park Eun-Bin - Netflix/KBS2

International: The biggest addition to Netflix’s vast collection of K-dramas they have been amassing over the past several years, in Korea it has been off to a fantastic start as its viewership ship share during its premiere and second episode were at a 6.2 and 6.7 percent ratings share while leading into the main nighttime draw currently which is Lovers of the Red Sky which was only leading The King’s Affection by two percent a half hour after it aired. A strong initial showing that will also be boosted by Netflix’s acquisition and its American viewership on its streaming platform.
