Ratings Report: Kkondae Intern And The Summer TV Unveiling's
Broadcast: ABC’s Agents of Shield unveiled its seventh and last season on May 27. The final season premiere halted 1.818 million viewers, a 21.43 percent drop from season six. For the past two weeks, Agents of Shield aired to an average of 1.537 million viewers.
Cable: Following Soul Train and its creator, BET’s American Soul premiered its second season on May 27 to 740,000 viewers, 17.23 percent less than the first season. In the 18-49 demo, the new season also dropped 26.09 percent, with 170,000 viewers in the demo. American Soul had an average of 602,000 viewers in the past two weeks. Over at HBO, Michaela Coel introduced her new series I May Destroy You, premiered to 212,000 viewers with 50,000 in the 18-49 demographic. The second episode saw 8.02 percent increase in total viewership, and a stunning 60 percent increase in the 28-49 demo. OWN announced If Loving You Is Wrong will conclude after five season, which aired to an average of 1.094 million viewers in the past two weeks.
International: The Broadcast Research Council of South Africa released the May ratings for top South African TV programs. At SABC1, Uzalo ranks top 1 with 10,597,540 viewers, followed by Skeem Saam with 9,013,729 viewers. Generations: the Legacy ranked third with 8,785,046 viewers. Muvhango aired on SABC2 to 4,550,556 viewers, and 7De Laan had 2,076,497 viewers. Isidingo had 527,724 viewers over at SABC3. On eTV, Scandal remains the most popular program with 5,986,978 viewers, followed by Rhythm City with 4,653,579 viewers. Leading the chart at DSTV, The Queen had 1,484,456 viewers tuned in during the month of May, and Isibaya had 1,254,131 viewers; The River, slightly behind, had 1,135,427 viewers.
In Korea, the average Nielsen TV ratings for the week of June 8-14 on Free-to-air TV are as follow: Good Casting (SBS)-7.4%; The King: Eternal Monarch (SBS)-7.0%; Kkondae Intern (MBC)-5.7%; Dinner Mate (MBC)-3.8%; Born Again (KBS2)-2.2%; Soul Mechanic (KBS2)-1.8%.
The average ratings for the week of June 8-14 on Korean Cable TV are as follow: King Maker: The Change of Destiny (TV Chosun)-5.1%; When My Love Blooms (tvN)-4.7%; My Unfamiliar Family (tvN)-3.6%; Team Bulldog: Off-duty Investigation (OCN)-3.6; Mystic Pop-up Bar (JTBC)-3.1%; Oh My Baby (tvN)-1.8%; Sweet Munchies (JTBC)-0.7%.
In the United Kingdom, Coronation Street on ITV1 aired to an average of 7,244,000 viewers in the past three episodes; Emmerdale had an average of 5,905,000 viewers tuned in last week; an average of 769,500 viewers tuned in to EastEnders from the start of June.
Streaming: I May Destroy You, a new series on HBO, untangling the trauma of sexual assault with Michaela Coel’s unique sense of dark humor, is received by the audience with mix reviews. Many praised the complexity of Coel’s dealing with sexual assault and her relatable characters, but some criticized the show as too abstract, missing out on the deep feelings within. The series scored 65% with the audience on Rotten Tomatoes.
