Ratings Report: ‘I May Destroy You’ See Ratings Decline

Broadcast: On July 1, ABC’s Agents of SHIELD saw a 50% viewership increase in its 18-49 demographic from 200,000 to 300,000, although the number remains on a slow decline since the season premiere. The following episode sustained the amount of viewers in the same demo. In the past two weeks, Agents of SHIELD had an average of 1.354 million viewers.

Cable: Over at BET, American Soul is seeing a resurgence of viewers during the July 8 episode, with 25 percent increase in the 18-49 demo and 15 percent increase in total viewership. In the past two weeks, American Soul had an average of 557,000 viewers, slightly under the season average. Black Monday returned to Showtime after a two months hiatus. The series’ second season had a dramatic success when viewership almost doubled on the third episode. The return didn’t resurrect that success; Black Monday averaged 86,500 viewers with 20,000 in the 18-149 demographic. Another Showtime series, The Chi, averaged 359,000 total viewers; its ratings are on a slight and slow increase since the season premiere. Over at HBO, I May Destroy You averaged 103,000 total viewers, a 50 percent drop since its premiere. OWN’s Greenleaf averaged 1.212 million total viewers in the past two weeks, a slight drop from its last season premiere.

International: South American primetime TV ratings during the month of June is available. At SABC1, Uzalo leads the chart with 8,739,969 viewers, followed by Generations: The Legacy with 8,057,180 viewers. Skeem Saam is the third most viewed program at SABC 1 with 7,889,755 viewers. SABC2’s Muvhango had 4,039,490 viewers, earning the top spot on the channel’s chart, followed by 7De Laan with 1,817,513 viewers and Lithapo with 1,802,216 viewers. Scandal remains eTV’s most popular program with 5,168,427 viewers, followed by Rhythm City with 4,198,768 viewers and Imbewu: the Seed with 3,542,322 viewers. Over at DSTV, The Queen had 1,386,699 viewers, Isibaya had 1,162,093 viewers, and The River had 959,098 viewers. 

In Korea, for the week of July 6-12, there were five series premiere (*indicates new series): Once Again (KBS)-29.5%; Backstreet Rookie (SBS)-7.7%; Men Are Men* (KBS)-4.2%; The Good Detective* (JTBC)-3.9%; Graceful Friends* (JTBC)-3.0%; Was It Love* (JTBC)-2.1%; Train* (OCN)-1.4%.

Over at the United Kingdom in the past two weeks, Coronation Street remained the most watched series with an average of 7,043,000 viewers, followed by Emmerdale with an average of 5,692,000 viewers. 

Streaming: Netflix is giving Ann M. Martin’s beloved The Baby-Sitters Club a modern makeover. The new series follows a group of friends who started a homegrown babysitting business together. The audience is enjoying the beloved classic with a twist of modern touches, and captivated by a strong cohesive ensemble with strong individual performances from each actors. This is a perfect series for a slow summer afternoon. The Baby-Sitters Club scored 97% with the audience on Rotten Tomatoes.
