Ratings Report: Fall TV Premieres On The Way

Network: In the past few days, four highly anticipated shows had their world premieres. To begin, let’s have a look at CBS’s Bob Hearts Abishola. The new Chuck Lorre comedy starring Folake Olowofoyeku and Billy Gardell opened to a substantial 5.89 million on September 23rd. The premiere received critical praise for its surprisingly nuanced representation of Nigeran immigrants. On the same evening, CBS premiered All Rise which is lead by Luke Cage star Simone Missik. The show’s premiere had a whopping 6.03 million viewers. Over at NBC on the same night, Bluff City Law premiered to 4.61 million viewers. The new show stars Jimmy Smits and Caitlin McGee. Lastly, ABC’s Black-ish spinoff Mixed-ish premiered the following evening to 3.91 million viewers. 

Cable: Continuing our coverage of OWN network, David Makes Man has seen an unfortunate drop in viewership. September 18th’s episode had a large 36.43 percent decrease in viewership which amounted to 349,000 viewers. This is in great contrast to the 549,000 viewers of the previous episode. The most recent episode continued with a 14.04 percent decline in viewership, ending with 300,000 viewers. OWN’s Greenleaf has been moving through its 4th season with moderate viewership. The last two episodes have seen a slow decline in viewership. September 17th’s episode brought in around 1.11 million viewers with a o.45 percent decrease in viewership from the previous episode. The most recent episode had 980,000 viewers with an 11.88 percent decrease in viewership compared to the previous episode. 

SABC 1

International: The TVSA monthly ratings report is in! For 3 months running, the top SABC 1 show is  Uzalo with 10.143 million viewers. Continuing its second place run is Generations: The Legacy with 9.238 million viewers. Skeem Skam holds its respectable third place position with 7.307 million viewers. Moving over to SABC 2, Muvhango stays at the tip top of the list with 5.033 million viewers. 7De Laan has regained its second place position with 2.424 million viewers which happens to be less than its previous third place position with 2.587 million. E TV’s top soaps have settled nicely in the 3 top positions. Scandal came in on top with 6.244 million viewers. In a somewhat distant second is Imbewu: The Seed with 4.276 million viewers. In a very close third is Rhythm City with 4.274 million. 

Kdramapal’s top tv dramas for the past week saw a bit of a change. The top shows in Terrestial TV (KBS2, MBC, SBS) are as follows: Vagabond-8.2%,Golden Gardens-8.1%, When The Camellia Blooms, Welcome 2 Life-4.7%, Rookie Historiana Goo Hae-Ryung-4.7%, Secret Boutique-4.3%, I Wanna Hear Your Song-4.3%, I Wanna Hear Your Song-3.2%. 

The top cable shows (JTBC, OCN, TVN) are: Arthdal Chronicles-6.9%, Flower Crew: Joseon Marriage Agency-4.0%, Pegasus Market-3.2%, Strangers From Hell-2.8%, The Great Show-2.6%, When The Devil Calls Your Name-1.6%, Be Melodramatic-1.5%, The Running Mates: Human Rights-1.3%. 

Hulu

Streaming: Wu Tang: An American Saga is moving into its 7th episode on October 2nd. The show has been met with a mix of critical acclaim and skepticism. It seems to be a nice companion piece to the Showtime original Of Mics And Men. Ashton Sanders has been praised for his performance as RZA.
