Demos: NBC Stays On Top And BET Finds A Bigger Crowd

Broadcast: November was another strong month for broadcast television. Live sports continue to fuel viewership, with each of the major networks benefiting greatly from their coverage. NBC remains the most viewed network, with a daily average of 5.439 million viewers. There were multiple days in which viewership exceeded 10.000 million viewers. The strongest day was November 23rd when NBC aired the NFL Thursday Special, bringing viewership up to a staggering 23.960 million. ABC maintained second place with an average viewership of 4.328 million. Viewership peaked at 15.301 million viewers on November 20th with ABC’s presentation of Monday Night Football. Meanwhile, CBS averaged 3.412 million viewers, experiencing notable spikes every Sunday with Sunday Night Football. While CBS reached a high of 9.061 million viewers, their weakest day — November 11th — generated an audience of just 788,000. FOX continues to lag behind the competition, averaging 2.693 million viewers. The network peaked on November 1st at 11.582 million viewers but hit a low of 787,000 on November 23rd. Though viewership for The CW is much lower than the major broadcast networks, its audience continues to grow with each month. The CW averaged 353,000 viewers in November, reaching 1.253 million on November 18th.

Cable: In November, several cable networks saw a slight boost in their viewership, but overall fluctuations from October were minimal. BET saw the greatest increase, rising to an average of 300,000 daily viewers, up from 247,000 in October and breaking the network’s recent trend of diminishing viewership. BET Her, however, saw its audience decrease by 1,000 viewers, dropping to an average of 29,000. Magnolia Network averaged 143,000 viewers a day, a few thousand more than last month. OWN also saw its viewership grow by a few thousand, averaging 133,000 viewers. The Weather Channel experienced the greatest drop off in viewership, dipping down to 86,000 viewers from 100,000 in October. Justice Central, Cleo TV, and Comedy.TV brought in average viewerships of 18,000, 14,000, and 4,000 respectively.

Spanish Language: November proved to be another strong month for Spanish Language networks as multiple networks grew their audience. Univision remains the most popular despite losing some of its audience, averaging 1.264 million daily viewers. Telemundo saw the greatest increase, with its average climbing to 924,000 viewers, over 150,000 more than the previous month. UniMas also saw growth with its audience rising to an average of 391,000 daily viewers. TUDN generated a larger audience as well, averaging 103,000 viewers, nearly 20,000 more than last month. Additionally, Universo saw a slight bump in viewership, averaging 51,000 viewers compared to last month’s 47,000. Galanovelas and BeIN Sports Espanol still struggle to generate any significant viewership, averaging 7,000 and 1,300 viewers respectively.

Streaming: As broadcast viewership continues to grow this fall season, streaming viewership continues its decline. In October, streaming accounted for only 36.6% of total television viewership. YouTube remains the uncontested champion amongst streamers, accounting for 24.9% of all streaming views. Netflix lags behind, accounting for 19.7% of streaming viewership. Prime Video overtook Hulu as the third most popular service once again, garnering 9.8% of viewership while Hulu dropped down to 8.5%. Disney+ showed little fluctuation, bringing in 5.2% of streaming viewers, while Tubi remains just behind at 3.6%. Max continues to outperform both Peacock and Roku, with 3.6% of viewers compared to Peacock and Roku’s 3.0% each. Paramount+ viewership continues to dwindle, only accounting for 2.5% of total streaming views. Pluto TV is right behind it at 2.2%. The remaining 13.5% of streaming viewership belonged to other streaming services, including high-bandwidth video streaming on television and apps designed to deliver live broadcast and cable programming.
