Ratings Report: Fall Television In Full Swing
Network: Over on CBS, Bob Hearts Abishola saw an initial fall in viewership followed by a sudden increase for its latest episode. October 14th’s episode had an 8.06 percent decrease in viewership compared to the previous episode. It had 4.86 million viewers. The most recent episode had a significant uptick of 8.22 percent increase ending with 5.268 million viewers. Interestingly, CBS’s All Rise had a similar trajectory to Bob Hearts Abishola. October 14th’s episode had a slight decrease of 4.57 percent with a total viewership of 5.032 million. The most recent episode increased its viewership by 8.13 percent leading to 5.441 million viewers. Season 2 of CBS’s God Friended Me has had a bit of a rough start with a significant viewership decrease of 31.73 percent. The last two episodes have continued this decrease, but in much smaller increments. October 20th’s episode had a total of 6.256 million viewers with a decrease of 9.20 percent. The following episode saw a very minor decrease of 0.72 percent ending with 6.211 million viewers.
Cable: Over on the OWN network, David Makes Man finished its first season on October 16th. The penultimate episode saw a massive uptick of 27.15 percent. The final episode saw a decrease of 10 percent which ended with 333,000 viewers compared to its previous 370,000 viewers. The show is now in consideration for renewal or cancellation. It has unfortunately had a lackluster ratings performance despite high critical and audience praise. October 15th’s episode of Greenleaf suffered a 17.62 percent decrease in viewership which left the episode with 893,000 viewers. The following episode had a significant surge in viewership of 23.74 percent which moved the total viewership to 1.105 million. Over on The CW, Black Lightning has had a steady decline in viewership since its third season began on October 7th. The season began with a 22.48 percent decline from the previous season which gave the first episode 891,000 viewers. The most recent episode had a total of 524,000 viewers. The smallest decrease in viewership occurred on October 21st’s episode when the shift was only 2.86 percent.
International: SATV’s Monthly Ratings for September are available. Over on SABC 1, the drama Uzalo remains on top. The show garnered 10.063 million views this past month, which is a negligible decrease from the previous figure. Holding strong in second place is Generations: The Legacy with 9.162 million viewers. Following in third place is Skeem Saam with 7.477 million views. SABC 2’s top program is Muvhango which pulled 5.134 million viewers. 7 De Laan dropped from its second-place into third with a slightly lower audience of 2.274 million compared to last months performance. ETV’s figures have remained largely the same with the top performers locking down their previous positions. Scandal came out on top with 5.892 million viewers. Imbewu: The Seed remains in second with 4.152 million viewers. Rhythm City kept its third-place position with 3.864 million viewers.
This past week’s Korean TV ratings had strong performances. The top shows in Terrestrial TV(KBS2, MBC, SBS) ratings are as follows: When The Camellia Blooms-14.8%, Vagabond-9.5%, Golden Garden-7.1%, The Tale Of Nokdu-5.6%, Secret Boutique-4.2%, Extraordinary You-3.5%.
The top cable TV (JTBC, OCN, tvN) are: My Country: The New Age-4.8%, Catch The Ghost-3.9%, Pegasus Market-3.0%, Flower Crew: Joseon Marriage Agency-2.8%, Miss Lee-2.4%, Melting Me Softly-1.6%, The Lies Within-1.3%, The Running Mates: Human Rights-0.9%.
Streaming: Netflix’s Nowhere Man had its premiere on October 1st. The show centers around an imprisoned man who is compelled to breakout when his son is kidnapped. Set in modern China, the show explores gang dynamics, family, redemption, and even alternate timelines. As Netflix’s first original Chinese language show, it is not be missed.
