Competitive Series: The 71st annual Miss Universe competition finds a new home with Roku. Previously on broadcast, the 3-hour-long competition will now stream live from New Orleans. The Miss Universe Organization and The Roku Channel have closed a one-year deal for Roku to be the official English-language home for the competition. At the same time, Telemundo will continue to broadcast the Spanish-language format. Vice President of Programming at Roku, Rob Holmes, said in a statement, "As more and more marquee events move to streaming, we're excited to bring these exclusive experiences for free to our audience." Miss Universe 71 will stream live from New Orleans on January 14, 2023, at 7 p.m. ET.
RuPaul's Drag Race has moved from VH1 to MTV with the premiere of season 15. The series has shifted hands before, originally premiering on Logo TV and then moving to VH1 in 2017. The series move is most likely part of the Paramount restructuring and VH1's oversight being moved to BET. Paramount+ will also exclusively stream a spin-off "Global All Stars" season with past international competitors returning to compete. The Drag Race franchise continues to expand, with new spin-offs announced globally in Brazil and Mexico.
Miss America creator and showrunner Dahvi Waller signs a new TV deal to return to Lionsgate. Waller said, "I'm thrilled to be back in business with the Lionsgate family. They're wonderful people, and they make wonderful television. I am excited for the sophisticated, boundary-pushing, and most importantly, entertaining shows we're going to create together." The multi-year contract will have Waller create and develop new projects under Lionsgate.
Docusoap: Netflix's Bling Empire: New York reveals teaser trailer and release date for January 20, 2023. The spin-off series of Bling Empire will follow Dorothy Wang, who appeared as a regular in the second season of the original series, and her wealthy friends as they navigate life in the big apple. The series will also include appearances by Hong Kong business magnate Stephen Hung, Valdez-Hung, the founder of modeling agency Dreamodels Deborah, and Hong Kong fashion stylist Tina Leung.
Lifestyle: Stephen Boss, best known as DJ tWitch appearing on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, passed away at 40. According to the coroner's medical report, the cause of death was self-inflicted, with no suspicion of foul play. Boss' wife, Allison Holker Boss, confirmed the news of his death: "It is with the heaviest of hearts that I have to share my husband Stephen has left us. Stephen lit up every room he stepped into. He valued family, friends, and community above all else, and leading with love and light was everything to him. He was the backbone of our family, the best husband and father, and an inspiration to his fans." Boss became recognized with appearances on So You Think You Can Dance? and The Ellen DeGeneres Show in 2014 and being made an executive producer in 2020.
Trevor Noah gives an emotional departure speech on The Daily Show on Comedy Central. Noah hosted the series since 2015 and announced his departure earlier this year. In his farewell speech, Noah thanked his fans and praised black women in America. " From my mom, my gran, my aunts, all these black women in my life but then in America as well. I always tell people if you truly want to learn about America, talk to Black women. Because, unlike everybody else, Black women can't afford to fuck around and find out. Black people understand how hard it is when things go bad. I'm grateful to them, and I'm grateful to you. This has been an honor," he added." The Daily Show will have guest hosts filling Noah's seat until a permanent replacement is expected by the Fall of 2023.

The show is produced by SmartLess Media and will premiere on February 6 on Amazon Music and then on February 13 for all podcast services.
