Media Stats: The Oscars Hit Four-Year Viewership High, ‘Where is Wendy Williams?’ Broke Record
Docuseries: Lifetime TV Networks’ latest controversial documentary, Where is Wendy Williams?, debuted on February 24th. According to Nielsen's live+3 ratings, it averaged 1.2 million viewers and 6.2 million viewers across linear and digital platforms. The three-episode series revolves around former talk show host Wendy Williams’ struggles, particularly her alcohol problems. While Williams’ temporary guardian filed a lawsuit seeking a restraining order to stop the premiere, the New York court later ruled against it.
Docusoap: We TV’s No.2 ranked program, Love After Lockup, aired “The Best of Where Are They Now: Stan & Tai; Chazz & Glorietta” on March 14th. Its viewership dropped more than 60% from its finale of 387,000 viewers. Its spin-off Love During Lockup is set to debut on April 19th. On MTV, Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta saw a constant decline in viewership during February. The episode that aired on February 27th hit a record low since last June of 338,000 viewers. Overall, it is still the second most popular show on the channel. The third season of Love & Marriage: D.C. on OWN TV is up in viewership. The episode titled “Check Your Pass” drew 194,000 viewers on February 17th. Similarly, Bravo’s No. 4 ranked show, Married to Medicine: Atlanta, gained viewers, reaching nearly 600,000 people by the end of February. The network’s most-watched series, The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, saw its viewership fluctuate, especially with the first part of its reunion. The February 28th episode attracted 1.135 million people, the second-highest viewership since last October. On February 29th, The Real Housewives of Miami reached a low level of 308,000 viewers for part two of the reunion. Meanwhile, The Real Housewives of Potomac ranked fifth on Bravo, each episode with fewer than 700,000 viewers in February.
Contestant: ABC’s American Idol returned for its 22nd season on February 18th, and so far its viewership has fluctuated.; it accumulated 4.788 million viewers on February 25th. NBC's Password, hosted by Jimmy Fallon, continued to refresh viewership, reaching 2.089 million viewers on February 23rd. At the same time, MTV’s No.1 program, RuPaul's Drag Race, is also growing its audience, with an uptick to 569,000 viewers in March. CBS’s Survivor season 46 debuted on February 28th with 4.897 million viewers, while NBC's The Voice season 25 returned on February 26th with 6.334 million viewers.
Court: Part two of ABC’s Judge Steve Harvey season two held constant at about 1.5 million viewers over the whole of February. As of March 21st, it is the No. 20 most popular show on the network.
The Oscars: Airing on March 10th, the 96th Academy Awards drew 19.5 million viewers, hitting a four-year viewership high on ABC. In the last half hour of the ceremony, viewership reached its highest point of 21.9 million. According to the network, its first attempt to move the telecast to 7 p.m. ET contributed, in part, to this new ratings high.
