Hard Numbers: Regardless Of Language – Univision Network Is The Home Of The 3 Most Watched Award Shows
Contestant: 90 Day Fiancé spin-offs are reportedly one of the top-rated cable programs of the year among adults 18-49. Emmy Award-winner Shauna Robinson is the franchise host, best known for live coverage for the Black Sports and Entertainment Hall of Fame and Access Hollywood. The TLC shows follow couples who have applied for or received a K-1 Visa in the USA allowing foreign-born fiancés to come to the US for 90 days before getting married. The entertainment factor for the audience is watching the couples sometimes face language barriers, culture shock, and the stigma and explaining a “mail-order spouse” to friends and family.
The ever-going ratings tug-o-war between Family Feud and Jeopardy ends in a draw. In hard number, both game shows averaged 6.24 million views in their target demographic, averaging 5.1 live-plus-same-day national Nielsen rating for the session ending July 17—very promising for Family Feud, which had missed the first place spot by a tenth of a rating point for the first session of July. Meanwhile, the viewership increase Let’s Make a Deal 1 and Let’s Make a Deal 2 experienced last month was unfortunately short-lived for them, averaging back to their more consistent rating of 2.3 and 2.7 million, respectively, for July.
Season five of Fox’s Beat Shazam proves consistent—the game show hosted by the father-daughter duo Jamie and Corinne Foxx is averaging 1.8 million viewers so far this summer. The resurrection of the early 2000s game Don’t Forget the Lyrics, hosted by Niecy Nash, averages 1.89 million viewers, and a total of 391,680 of those average viewers were in the 18-49 demographic. Beast Shazam garnered 416,160 in that same demographic.
Informative: ABC announces Good Morning America is the top morning news show across all key demographics in adults 25-54 and 18-49 for the July 18 week. The press statement also states that GMA is the only morning news program to grow weekly in total viewers based on the same demographic.
NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt averaged over 6 million viewers for the last two weeks of July, placing it second on U.S. TV broadcast, excluding sports, specials, and syndication. However, the show reportedly dropped six percent of viewers in their target demographic of adults 25-54 the week of July 18. In this month's syndication world, Tamron Hall averages 0.6 in the demographic market for women 25-54, and Entertainment Tonight averages 1.8.
The View and The Talk both witnessed a slight total viewership decrease, but this month, both shows continued averaging 367,200 and 244,800 viewers in the women 18-49 demographic.
Meanwhile, at the cable news desks—The ReidOut experienced the most significant growth between May and June, increasing 18 percent in total audience and reaching the one million mark they missed last month. Reid scored 1.17 million viewers, with a 14 percent increase in the target demographic of adults 25-54. The Faulkner Focus is currently ranking number 10 in the Fox News Channel Top Programs List but did decrease about 7 percent this month, averaging an audience of 1.5 million and reaching 220,000 of the target demographic. The Chris Salcedo Show experienced the most significant decrease in viewership and demographic percentages– with an average audience total of 208,000 and 27,000 in the target demographic, decreasing 15 and 10 percent, respectively. This month, Making Money with Charles Payne reached 166,000 total viewers and 20,000 in the target demographic of adults 25-54, decreasing 1 and 5 percent. Don Lemon Tonight moved up on CNN’s Top Program List, now ranking seventh. For June, the program saw a four percent increase in the demographic audience to an average of 136,000 with a total viewership of 522,000.
Docuseries: Bravos’ Married to Medicine follows several black women's professional and personal lives in the Atlanta medical community. The season 9 premiere received fewer total viewers than season 8 with 699,000 but had a better demographic score of 0.21. Since July 1, all seven episodes of The Real Housewives of Dubai have averaged 619,000 viewers with a 0.16 demographic rating— which is considerably low for a spin-off of the Real Housewives franchise, which other shows typically break the 1 million mark in viewership.
Court: They say the only constant in life is change, but the court show programs dispute that claim with Divorce Court, Judge Mathis, and People’s Court, continuing their average streak of 489,000, 612,000, and 856,800, respectively.
International: Univision’s 2022 music award show Premios Juventud ranked the network as number one for that night. For the second consecutive year, the award show ranked number one among the target demographic of persons 18-49, 18-34, and 12-34, making the network the home of the three most viewed award shows on all television, regardless of language. Premios Juventud had a total of 4.5 million viewers, with an average of 885,000 in the target demographic.
