Console: Tencent is reportedly preparing to purchase a majority stake in Ubisoft. According to Reuters, the Chinese gaming company plans to raise its stake in the French game developer and publisher. The report reveals that the goal of Tencent is to become the single largest stakeholder in Ubisoft. This would effectively shift control away from Ubisoft's majority shareholders, the Guillemot family. The Guillemot family currently owns 15% of Ubisoft, while Tencent has a 5% investment in the company, which it acquired back in 2018.

PC: Final Fantasy 14's most recent patch, "Buried Memory," was made available on August 23rd and features a brand-new feature called "Island Sanctuary," according to a Square Enix announcement. In the solo adventure "Island Sanctuary," users can visit a tropical island and construct and customize their farm. Players can gather resources, build infrastructure, and take care of a variety of species. The patch also adds new tasks to the main story and develops Tataru's Grand Endeavor, a side story. The "Fell Court of Troia" Dungeon and "Pandaemonium: Abyssos," an eight-player raid that transports players to the Lahabria Dungeon, are two new multiplayer additions.
Guild Wars 2 officially came to Steam on Tuesday, August 23rd. Along the way, players will come across individuals with distinct characteristics that they can hire to join their mercenary team. BraveNine Story is available for early access in the United States, Canada, Singapore, and the Philippines.
AppLovin Corp offered to purchase Unity Software Inc in an all-stock deal that would have been worth $17.5 billion, with the condition that Unity drops its bid for competitor IronSource. In response, Unity announced that it is rejecting AppLovin's offer and continuing with its purchase of IronSource. Both IronSource and AppLovin offer services that help developers grow and monetize their apps. A market analyst by Reuters noted that the offer by AppLovin was likely a hasty move made to prevent the IronSource sale. Unity's the free game engine is used by many game developers, with some of the titles including Call of Duty: Mobile and Pokémon Go.
VR: Nvidia and Stanford University researchers have collaborated to create "Holographic Glasses," or virtual reality glasses. The glasses use lenses that are only 2.5mm thick to provide gamers with a full-color 3D holographic display, which, when compared to the traditional VR headset, is a breakthrough move for VR. The Holographic Glasses have a lot lower profile thanks to their pancake lenses, and they also have a few other advantages like infinite resolution and a far larger field of view at up to 200°.
VR surgical training platform FundamentalVR announced it has raised $20 million to expand its VR training program. FundamentalVR says it combines high-fidelity medical simulations with VR and haptics so that trainees can fully experience the sensations of real-life surgery. The company aims to make it more affordable for medical institutions to provide accredited surgical training. VR surgical training is becoming more prevalent and appears to deliver a significant return on investment for organizations that would otherwise pay for more costly and less flexible surgical training.
