Curtain Call: Robert O’Hara Directs Lorraine Hansberry’s Renowned Drama ‘A Raisin In The Sun’
Broadway: Disney’s beloved Aladdin has been a hit on Broadway’s New Amsterdam Theater for eight years now, so much so that the show will now travel across the United States to spread the magic with a different cast. The production, which the New York Times has called “fabulous” and “extravagant,” is scheduled to embark on a North American tour in addition to its regular installments in Mexico, the Netherlands, Germany, and Japan.
The show’s music was written by five-time Oscar winner, Alan Menken, including “A Whole New World,” which has won an Academy Award for Best Original Song. 342 people from 26 different costume shops put together the costumes for Aladdin. The costume design is made up of fabrics from nine different countries: Morocco, Turkey, India, Uzbekistan, Guatemala, France, Italy, Germany, and China.

A revised version of The Lesbian Play will head to the Triad Theater in June 2023 for its first fully-staged production.
Writer-Director Robert O’Hara (Insurrection: Holding History, Barbecue, Mankind) is directing Lorraine Hansberry’s renowned drama “A Raisin In The Sun.” Originally produced in 1959, it is known as one of the greatest plays that puts the true stories and lives of Black people living in America front and center. Her son, Walter Lee, has other ideas. This innovative new production of an American classic fearlessly interrogates the American dream in the face of racial and economic strife.”
