The Receipts: ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ Rules As Number One Movie Worldwide; ‘Black Adam’ Stays Afloat At The Box Office; ‘Lost Bullet 2’ Dominates Netflix’s Top 10

Domestic: The highly anticipated Marvel sequel, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, has opened this weekend with over $180 million at the domestic box office. This is nearly double the opening weekend of Black Adam, signifying its quick potential to overtake the rival superhero film. The film follows the journey of King T’Challa’s younger sister Shuri (Letitia Wright) who must take up the mantle of the Black Panther to defend their nation from pressing enemies. It dethroned Black Adam easily as the number-one movie worldwide. With a budget of $250 million, the film has earned a total of $407 million USD worldwide as of now.

Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam still stands tall with this last weekend taking it up to a total of $352 million at the box office. The film is a certified success with an approximate budget of $200 million. The story follows Black Adam’s (Dwayne Johnson) release from his 5,000-year imprisonment and his path of superpowered mayhem and vengeance on the modern world.

Along the lines of indie film releases, Armageddon Time sits at a current box office total of $2.5 million. Written and directed by James Gray, the film tells a generational story of a family’s journey toward the American Dream. The film stars Anne Hathaway, Jeremy Strong, and Jaylin Webb. With a budget of $15 million, the film is a considerable flop financially with decent praise from critics notably appreciating Gray’s attempt to recount his childhood through a period piece drama.

International: In India, Doctor G has steadily coasted since its October release with current earnings of $2.1 million USD worldwide. The dramedy stars Ayushmann Khurrana as the only male gynecologist at his clinic struggling to earn the trust of his patients. The film released domestically in India alongside softer theatrical premieres in the US, Europe, and Canada, earning roughly $100,000 internationally.

Streaming: The number 7 movie on Netflix this week is Bad Guys. The animated film’s cast is led by Sam Rockwell and features Awkwafina and Lilly Singh.
