Receipts: 'Novocaine' beats down 'Mickey 17' and 'Captain America: Brave New World'

Domestic: Novocaine, released Friday, March 14, 2025, took the top spot at the box office with an opening gross of $8.8 million. The film has grossed $10.6 million worldwide against a $18 million budget, setting it up to potentially be a box office success with positive reviews and an 82% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Novocaine, starring Jack Quaid, Amber Midthunder, and Jacob Batalon, follows a man who uses his inability to feel pain as an advantage to fight the people who kidnapped the woman of his dreams.

Mickey 17, released Friday, March 7, 2025, dropped from the number one spot to the number three at the box office, grossing $7.4 million with a worldwide gross of $90.4 million. With a budget of $118 million, the film is underperforming at the box office despite positive reviews with a 78% on Rotten Tomatoes.

The film follows Mickey Barnes (Robert Pattinson), an employee who has himself cloned to test the limits of human abilities with each clone dying so that the company employing him can learn from his death. When one clone fakes his death to try and fight back, his lover Nasha (Naomi Ackie) helps him lead a revolt.

Captain America: Brave New World, released Tuesday, February 11, 2025, dropped from the number two spot to the number four spot at the box office. The film grossed $5.6 million and a worldwide gross of $389.2 million. With a budget of $180 million, the film has solidified its standing as a box office success despite poor reviews with a 48% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Dog Man, released Friday, January 31, 2025, has continued its drop at the box office, dropping from number six to number 8 and grossed $2.5 million for a total gross of $25.9 million. With a budget of $40 million, the film has continued its box office success.

Last Breath, released Friday, February 28, 2025, dropped from number three to number 10 at the box office with a gross of $2.2 million for a worldwide gross of $19.5 million. With a budget of $23.8 million, the film has heavily underperformed at the box office despite receiving positive reviews with a 77% on Rotten Tomatoes.

International: Attack on Titan: The Last Attack, released Thursday, March 13, 2025, took the number two spot at the Japanese box office with a gross of $1.1 million for a total gross of $1.3 million with a market share of 21.4%.

The film is a recut of the last four episodes of Season 4 of Attack on Titan, a Japanese anime television series based on the manga of the same name. The film follows an army of skinless giants, Titans, as they prepare for a final and devastating attack on mankind.

Exorcism Chronicles: The Beginning, released Friday, February 21, 2025, took the number four spot at the South Korean box office. The animated film grossed $244, 043 with a total gross of $2.9 million with a 4.72% market share. The film follows a doctor-turned-priest who must protect a child from dark forces.

Somebody, released Wednesday, March 12, 2025, took the number five spot at the South Korean box office. The film grossed $217, 523 with a total gross of $351, 394 and a 4.21% market share. The film follows a single mother, Yeong-Eun (Kwak Sun-Young) who notices increasingly violent behavior in her daughter So-Hyun (Ki So-Yu).

Emilia Perez, released Wednesday, March 12, 2025, took the number ten spot at the French box office. The film grossed $52, 185 with a total gross of $117, 552 and a market share of 1.01%. The film follows a Mexican lawyer (Zoe Saldaña) who helps a Mexican cartel boss (Karla Sofia Gascón) undergo gender-affirming care in an attempt to lead a new life.

Streaming: Venom: The Last Dance (2024) took the number four spot on Netflix after two weeks in the top 10. The film had 5 million views with 9 million hours watched. Starring Tom Hardy, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Juno Temple, the film follows Eddie Brock as he and Venom try to outrun the military while preventing an invasion from Venom’s home planet.

 Sicario (2015) took the number five spot on Netflix after one week in the top 10. The film had 4.6 million views with 9.2 million hours watched. Starring Emily Blunt and Benicio Del Toro, the film follows an FBI agent trying to flush out a Mexican cartel boss.
