Receipts: ‘Knock At The Cabin’ Dethrones ‘Avatar: The Way Of Water’ As No. 1; ‘80 For Brad’ Proves Popular With Women

Domestic: Taking the first place spot on the weekend of February 3 is the newest M. Night Shyamalan film Knock at the Cabin, starring Dave Bautista, Nikki Amuka-Bird, and Kristen Cui. The psychological horror film was made on a budget of $20 million and made $24.4 million worldwide as of February 7. For its opening, it grossed $5.4 million on its first day, including $1.5 million from Thursday night previews, ending its weekend run with a solid $14.2 million. The film is based on the novel The Cabin at the End of the World by Paul Tremblay. It follows a vacationing family held hostage by armed strangers who demand that the family pick a sacrifice among them to avoid the world apocalypse.

Also making its release the first weekend of February is the sports-comedy film 80 for Brady, featuring Rita Moreno and Billy Porter as part of its ensemble cast. Multiple early film screenings were shown leading up to its February 3 release leading to it grossing $12.5 million, placing it in second place at the box office that weekend. 80 for Brady proved successful among women over 55 on its opening weekend, with 69% of the audience women, with much of the sales reportedly coming from matinee showtimes. The film has grossed $16.4 million as of February 7.

After eight weeks of topping the box office, Avatar: The Way of Water is dethroned and moved to third place on the first weekend of February. The film grossed over $11.3 million that weekend, pushing its worldwide total to $2.17 billion. The film has proven very successful overseas, grossing over $1.53 billion internationally.

Dropping to fifth place after five weeks at the Box office is the James Wan and Blumhouse Production horror internet sensation M3GAN. The PG-13 thriller about a killer animatronic doll grossed $3.8 million over the first weekend of February. The film has grossed domestically $88.1 million since its release and an additional $72.8 million overseas.

Missing, starring Storm Reid, Ken Leung, and Nia Long, grossed over $23.5 million. The film is an unconventional techno-thriller seen in a screenlife format, where the film’s story is shown as if being seen through a computer, tablet, or smartphone.

International: Released in China on January 22 is the Mandarin-language suspenseful comedy film Full River Red directed by Zhang Yimou. The film’s plot revolves around a soldier and his commander after a mysterious murder in the Southern Song dynasty. The film has grossed $596.7 million worldwide since its release and ranked in sixth place.

Premiering January 26 was the Spanish romantic-comedy film Infelices para siempre. Filmed in Northern Mexico and starring Consuelo Duvak and Adrian Uribe, the film follows a couple cursed to live on the same day while celebrating their 20th anniversary. The film has earned $3.17 million since its premiere.

Streaming: Netflix’s romantic comedy You People was released for streaming on January 27. The film has spent two weeks at number one on the Netflix Global Top 10 list, reportedly being streamed 121.26 hours over the last two weeks. Kenta Barris directs the film with an ensemble cast, including Lauren London, Nia Long, and Eddie Murphy.

Glass Onion: A Kives Out Mystery spends its seventh week on the Netflix Top Ten List, with the streaming service reporting the sequel being streamed over 300 million hours since its streaming release.
