Receipts: ‘Guy Ritchie’s: The Covenant’ Premieres At Number One With ‘John Wick Four’ Still Profiting Strong A Month After Release

Domestic: Guy Ritchie’s: The Covenant debuts at number three at the Box Office for the weekend of April 21. The film stars Dar Salim, Sina Parvaneh, Jason Wong, Cyrus Khodaveisi, Fahim Fazil, and Christian Ochoa and was released domestically(United States and Canada) by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios and internationally by Amazon Prime Videos with a $55 million budget. As of  April 23, The Covenant has grossed $6.3 million domestically, including the $2.2 million earned on its opening day.  

John Wick: Chapter 4, released by Lionsgate on March 24, holds a steady place on the weekend Box Office chart at fourth place for April 21. The action-thriller has grossed $169 million domestically and $189.6 million internationally, and with a budget of $100 million, it has earned $361.2 million worldwide five weeks after its release. The film’s cast includes Laurence Fishburne, Donnie Yen, Lance Reddick, Hiroyuki Sanada, and Rina Sawayama.

Released on April 5, Air is a biographical sports drama film based on the famous Nike shoe line Air Jordan’s origins. The film’s ensemble cast includes Viola Davis, Marlon Wayans, Chris Messina, and Chris Tucker. Made with an estimated $70-90 million budget and distributed by Amazon Studios and Warner Brothers Pictures. Air was originally intended to be an Amazon Prime Video streaming release, but Amazon Studios chose to release the film theatrically instead following positive screen tests. The film earned $14.4 million on opening weekend at the Box Office and has grossed $41.6 million domestically and $21.1 million internationally as of April 23.

In sixth place for the April 21 weekend Box Office chart and three weeks after its release, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves has earned $178 million worldwide— $82 million domestically and $96 million internationally— surpassing its $150 million budget. The film’s cast includes Michelle Rodriguez, Justice Smith, Chole Coleman, and Regé-Jean Page.

Chevalier, starring Kelvin Harrison Jr and directed by Stephen Williams, saw its world premiere at the 2022 Toronto Film Festival and was released theatrically on April 21, 2023. The film is a biographical drama based on the life of French-Caribbean musician and composer Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges. Since April 23, the film has grossed $1.5 million playing in 1,275 theatres.

International: Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan is an Indian Hindi-language action film released on April 21. Since its release, the film has earned $12.6 million (₹103.3 crore) worldwide, making it the tenth highest-grossing Indian film of the year one weekend after its release. The action film was made with an estimated budget of $18.3 million and stars Salman Khan, Pooja Hedge, Venkatesh, and Jagapathi Babu.

Long Ma Jing Shen, released on April 4, is a Chinese action comedy film starring American-Chinese actor Jackie Chan as a washed-up stuntman struggling to make ends meet. The film has grossed $28.1 million worldwide as of April 23. Long Ma Jing Shen also stars Kevin Gui, Andy On, and Yueting Lang.

Streaming: Netflix’s Chupa, directed by Jonás Cuarón, is a fantasy adventure film released on April 7. The film was reportedly watched for 52.6 million hours between April 3 and 16. Chupa, starring Demián Bichir, currently holds an average rating of  5.7 out of 10 on Rotten Tomatoes.
