Motion Picture: ‘In The Heights’ To Screen Early At Hollywood’s Chinese Theater, Alamo Drafthouse Gradually Reopens

Action: Judas and the Black Messiah breakout star Dominique Fishback is set to join the cast of the next Transformers installment slated for June 24, 2022. Steven Caple Jr. of Creed II is set to direct with Fishback co-starring alongside Anthony Ramos. Darnell Metayer and Josh Peters will write based on a story by Joby Harold with Skydance and New Republic Pictures co-financing the film.

Comedy: Apple Original Films has acquired the filmed production of the Tony award-winning Broadway hit Come From Away. Directed by Christopher Ashley, Come From Away tells the true story of 7,000 stranded passengers in small-town Newfoundland after emergency flight diversions as a result of the September 11th attacks. Hasbro’s entertainment studio eOne will produce and finance the live filming beginning in May, with a release planned late this year on Apple TV+.

The film adaptation of Lin Manuel Miranda’s pre-Hamilton musical, In the Heights will screen at Hollywood’s TCL Chinese Theater on June 4 courtesy of the Los Angeles Latino International Film Festival. In his announcement, founder Edward James Olmos stated: “In the Heights celebrates the Latino culture and allows us to continue to support our mission of providing a platform of stories that are told by us and for us.” The John M. Chu-directed project will premiere on HBO Max on June 11.

Screenwriting couple Emily V. Gordon and Kumail Nanjiani of The Big Sick are set to write an adaptation of the surrealist short story The Doubtful Guest by Edward Gorey, starring Nanjiani and directed by Andy Muschietti. The story follows that of a mischievous penguin-like creature that brings chaos to a family’s home with its unwelcome arrival. Andy and Barbara Muschietti are also set to produce along with Dani Bernfeld. Gordon and Nanjiani will also serve as executive producers.

Drama: Amazon Studios has acquired the U.S. distribution rights to Oscar-winner Asghar Farhadi’s next feature project A Hero, currently in post-production. The writer-director is also working in junction with producer Alexandre Mallet-Guy of Memento Film Productions, and Amazon predicts the likelihood of A Hero participating in this year’s Cannes Film Festival and release for the 2022 award season. Plot details have not been released at this time.
