Motion Picture: First Images of 'The Woman King' with Viola Davis; Oprah Winfrey Executive Producer of 'The Color Purple' Musical; 'Huda's Salon' by director Abu-Assad to release in March
Action/Fantasy/Sci-Fi: Actress Viola Davis shares an image from her newest film The Woman King. The Director of the Netflix sci-fi action movie Old Guard, Gina Prince-Bythewood will be in charge of this project. Together they will bring to life a real-life story from Africa in the late 18th century. Davis will interpret general Nanisca, leader of an all-female warrior clan, and a new recruit called Nawi (Thuso Mbedu). Their unit of elite warriors will fight against the forces that mean to destroy their way of life and enslave the people of the Kingdom of Dahomey.
Denzel Washington is ready to get back into shape for The Equalizer 3. Four years after its predecessor Equalizer 2, the actor is teaming up with filmmaker Antoine Fuqua to finish up loose ends and call it a trilogy. After working on The Tragedy of Macbeth with director Joel Coen, the actor mentioned in an interview how “fun” it is for him to be able to work on different projects.

Both his films Paradise Now and Omar were Oscar-Nominated for Best International Feature Film. Huda’s Salon is the latest of his films that will get viewers into the complicated scenery that is the Israeli-Palestinian conflict from the point of view of ordinary people whose lives are manipulated by political and military forces. The film is set to release on March 4th.
Aubrey Plaza’s latest project, Emily The Criminal, which premiered during the Sundance Festival just two weeks ago has been acquired by Roadside Attractions and Vertical Entertainment for its distribution rights in North America. After receiving overwhelmingly positive reviews from critics and casual viewers alike, the film is now set up for success. As of yet, there is no official release date but the film is set to release sometime this year.

The Color Purple became an instant classic and has since then been adapted into a Tony-nominated Broadway play and is now on its way back to the big screen as a musical. Oprah Winfrey, who was in the original motion picture, is a proud executive producer of the new film that is set to release sometime in 2023. “This ain’t your mama’s Color Purple, “ said the iconic actress to Vanity Fair during an interview.

Henson has been cast for the role of Shug Avery. The actress was nominated for an Oscar for her role in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button in 2008 and has since then been in many critically acclaimed films such as Hidden Figures (2016) and The Best Of Enemies (2019).
