The adaptation has been in development for four years with Wonderstreet and Mark and Christine Holder, Sylvirgale Productions and Gerszt, Abedi, Jasmine Abedi, and Brian Zagorski, and 04 Entertainment attached. Mattison’s previous work includes adaptations of James Patterson’s and Sophie Kinsella’s works and work with MGM and Sony. Others, such as Edgar Bronfman Jr. and Bain Capital, and Steven Paul, have considered acquiring NAI only, without Paramount Global. At one time, Sony Pictures and Apollo Global Management produced a joint $26 billion bid for Paramount Global, but the companies are no longer attempting to acquire it.

The three executives were also granted annual target bonuses of $2.75 million, which is being distributed to apply only to the portion of the current fiscal year in which the executives were in the Office of the CEO.

A copyright dispute between George Gallo, the author of the work that inspired 1995’s Bad Boys, and Columbia Pictures has been settled. Gallo argued that his work was not work-for-hire; in 2020, the author declared that Columbia’s rights to make derivative works from his work ended in 2022, and filed a pair of notices on the matter in 2020. Columbia responded in 2023, filing a breach-of-contract suit and stating that the 1995 film’s contract specified that the work was written as a work-for-hire and that the contract had personal representations and warranties from Gallo. Details as to the results of the declaration are not known, but it has been reported that both sides are satisfied. The matter cannot be refiled.
