‘Woman King’ Director Gina Prince-Bythewood Honored With Gotham Awards Tribute

Woman King director Gina Prince-Bythewood will receive an accolade at the Gotham Awards in recognition of her contributions to cinema. On November 28, 2022, at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City, Prince-Bythewood will receive the Filmmaker Tribute from the Gotham Film & Media Institute (GFMI) during the awards ceremony. Love & Basketball, The Secret Life of Bees, Beyond the Lights, The Old Guard, and the limited series Women of the Movement are just a few productions that Prince-Bythewood has worked on as a writer, director, and producer.

According to Jeffrey Sharp, the executive director of GFMI, Gina Prince-Bythewood is a visionary director and a champion of Black narratives, and he praises her method of addressing traumatic episodes in American history. The Gotham Awards Ceremony is the first significant awards event of the fall season, bringing twelve competitive prize categories, early critical acclaim, and media attention to deserving independent films, shows, writers, directors, producers, and actors.
