Viola Davis Will Receive The Chaplin Award
Viola Davis is set to receive the 48th Chaplin Award as she is feted by Film at Lincoln Center. After winning the best audiobook, narration, and storytelling recording award at the 2023 Grammys and earning EGOT status for her memoir, Finding Me, Davis will be feted at the gala event on April 24, 2023, at Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall in New York City.
The head of Film at Lincoln Center, Lesli Klainberg, lauds Davis for her exceptional talent and tenacious emotional intelligence in whatever she undertakes. He, along with everyone else in the Lincoln Center, feels privileged to recognize Davis's accomplishments and acting prowess. The spectrum of her talents, according to a press release from Klainberg, is "remarkable – as a performer in cinema, television, and theater; as a producer opening doors for new voices; and as an inspirational memoirist."
The Woman King, Widows, Suicide Squad, Beautiful Creatures, Fences, Madea Goes to Jail, Law Abiding Citizen, and many other films are among Davis's acting credentials. Her next project is the American biographical comedy-drama AIR, which will be released by Amazon Studios on April 5, 2023. It is directed by Ben Affleck and written by Alex Convery.
The New York Film Festival, New Directors/New Films, student programs, and year-round cinematheque programming at Film at Lincoln Center will all benefit from the Chaplin Award Gala's proceeds. In its inaugural year of 1972, the Charlie Chaplin Award gala honored its namesake. Since then, other people—including Sidney Poitier, Morgan Freeman, Spike Lee, and others—have been recipients of the honor.
