POC Winners Of The 79th Venice Film Festival

The 79th Annual Venice International Film Festival took place from August 31st, 2022, through September 10th, 2022. The annual film festival is held in Venice, Italy. It is the world's oldest film festival and one of the "Big Five" International film festivals worldwide, which include the Big Three European Film Festivals alongside the Toronto Film Festival in Canada and the Sundance Film Festival in the United States. Awards were given out on Saturday, September 10. Director Alice Diop was the biggest winner taking home two awards.

  • Silver Lion Grand Jury Prize: Saint Omer; director - Alice Diop

  • Special Jury Prize: No Bears, director - Jafar Panahi

  • Lion of the Future – Luigi De Laurentiis Award for a Debut Film: Saint Omer; director - Alice Diop

  • Audience Award: Nezouh, director - Soudade Kaadan

  • Best Experience: The Man Who Couldn’t Leave; director - Chen Singing

  • Grand Jury Prize: From the Main Square; director - Pedro Harres
